More affordable then the VP330 probably and great fun to use

For modern "real" vocoders, I only know the MAM VF-11 I used that one quite a lot back in the days but then I sold it and used the Zoom 1201/1204 which I actually think sounds better (I know it sounds ridicolous but for me its like that)

Oh yeah there is also the new Roland VP550 vocal & ensemble keyboard, which is sort off a modern version of the VP330
I think this one is really cool because it kind of expands from a vocoder with "real sounding" choir and backing vocal things...like you can do some kind of Beach Boys barbershop shit like this http://nl.youtube.com/watch?v=SHd_U00q3vo I don't know how expensive it is now, its already a few years on the market (since 2005 I think) when it was released it was 1200 euros I think...I really want to have one of these one day

Over here the AX80 is probably worth 300 - 350 euro, but often you see them sold for less (appr. 275) because somehow nobody here wants them. But it's unfair, just compare it to a Juno 60 or 106 which are in the same budget and the AX80 will win spec wise. It's quite a versatile synth, but it's strongest for bass, pads and effect sounds. All in all it's a very deep, warm and woolly sounding synth.
As you can see, all parameter value's are graphically displayed with a led bar and a more precise 2 digit led display. If you do buy one, see that the left 2 parameter banks can be edited (the ones for LFO and EG). Often they don't, because inside there's two IC boards, one of which handles the touch membrane buttons, and they are connected quite badly. Often these connectors are faulty and you'll have to either re-solder them or replace them with a ribbon cable in oder to be able to program the LFO and EG. It's not really a though job but I admit that I fucked it up so I brought it to a repair guy.

I'm not sure if you should get one, but I think you won't regret it if you do.

what do you want from your microwave?

MW will get closer to vintage ppg wave kinda sounds (but it's still not a ppg wave) and has real analogue resonant filters

MWII has a lot more features, mod routings, multiple (digital) filter types, built in FX, yada yada yada.

you should really get both.

no-fi is definitely right.  You should get both if you can afford both.  Or better, an MWI and an XT.  MWIIs and XTs tend to be a more common than the Is, but programming will be easier with the IIs and XTs.

... a Kawai 8 channel Parametric EQ for 50 bucks? The eq would primarily be used for drums.
I use a nice mixer but the direct outs and inserts are both pre eq. This really annoys the crap out of me, as I would like to eq each instrument before I record them on separate channels. My other option is to just record each instrument dry then send them out of my sound card back into the mixer and record a stereo track. Will re-recording all of the tracks create a loss in quality?

i think it's more common to eq after recording. that way there's more room for readjustments. so just eq the returns.

I have one of those lying around somewhere...they have very little headroom, and so are great for overdriving especially with hi-q settings you can get some acidy filtery stuff going on.

Thanks for the tips, guys. 

I have no problems with repairing the synth.. in my past experience batteries are quite easy to replace.

Hopefully the guy would be ok with me opening the synth before i buy.

Are there any tell-tale signs other than gunk/corrosion around the battery?

Check if it has been opened recently, and if he has cleaned it. Also smell it, even if he has cleaned the prints that acid smell stays in the casing. And obviously check the prints for any damages.

Something I bought on Ebay never came so I got a bunch of money back.

I think I am going to buy a Yamaha DX7IIFD off a guy here in Canada for $300 Canadian. He has the original box, the thing looks to be in perfect shape with soft bag, stand, pedals, disks, blablabla.

Any reason not to. It's a little pricey, shipping will prolly be an extra $100 or so but I hear from people it's the best of that lot.

I had a DX7mkIIfd for years, and sold it. I like the 4 op FM better than 6 op. especially the later mk II kind, like the 802 and the DX7II.

I recommend TX81z or DX100 FTW!!
