Its also stupid that the dutch goverment puts all this millions of euros subsidisement into sports while cutting back on important things such as culture, education and healthcare and shit like that...

I read that Holland payed around 160 Million euro for the olympics. The money comes from government, lotto and a lot of companies. More money means better results. How more medailles, how more positive a country comes in the spotlight worldwide. And they say sport is very representable for a country. Good results makes people thing better about a country which leads to more business deals and some other thing I cannot remember, maybe tourists?
The 160 million is not too much and is worth the results.
