oh wow thanks! i am gonna do this!
Sorry one more question, I was a little confused, do the parties end at 2300 each day? or do they go on till much later?
on the ticket section of the website it says 12 noon to 0700 the next day
but on the info section it says 2300...
here's all the correct info: http://www.8bahnarea.nl/tickets-en/
can't wait... hope it won't rain too much so the camping doesn't get drenched
I was there, but did not have the opportunity to listen to anyone whatsoever, except 5 mins go Legowelt, Levon Vincent and Robert Hood (had to drive from Schiphol and back at the most weird moments, tried to sleep in between).
Good vibe though!
mr. costez! thanks for everything
Great location, beautiful camping, amazing sets and nice weather. Thanks a lot for making it happen.
One side note: It was a pity the organisation chose to use function one. As a result the whole village was enjoying the music and a lot of complaints came in which resulted in a big decrease of the volume at night. Next time a short range type of soundsystem will be much better. It will also do the job (maybe even better, the area's where quite small) and at night only a small adjustment is needed.
koktale - Funktion One sound systems come in a variety of sizes. One of the reasons it's well-known and loved is because it does a pretty good job at reproducing audio frequencies while using less electricity to do so.
As such, it makes no sense at all to suggest that someone shouldn't use a Funktion One sound system because it's "too loud".
Either rent a lower-powered Funktion One system or use the volume knobs more carefully.
It also helps to have be familiar with the local sound limit bylaws and to carry a decibel meter to verify sound pressure levels.
I did not say it's too loud. All I say that they used a soundsystem designed to throw the bass out over long distances. It's not about 'size' but about the type of bass speakers. Yes, some speakers are more efficient and you need less electricity and less speakers. But what I am talking about is short and long distance. Some bass speaker (for example J-bins) are great at 10 meters distance, for this party it would be more than enough and the people of Ede would have slept nicely and we would have partied harder.
Maybe Funktion One also has short range bass speakers. But I never saw them...
I think you have a basic misunderstanding of physics and Sound Pressure Level (SPL).
There is really no such thing as a short-distance or long-distance sub-woofer. Don't confuse this with "short-throw" and "long-throw" speakers which only refers to the driver's physical excursion. This has nothing to do with the distance it can be heard.
It doesn't matter what's making a sound, whether it's a person kicking a can or a jet engine: both will create sound waves that propagate equally if the air and surrounding geography is the same. And both will drop off frequencies at the same rate over the same distance.
As frequencies reach below 100Hz, they travel further because atmospheric air absorbs less low frequencies. The things that stop bass are friction (either through air or by being absorbed by a denser material) or phase-cancellation.
Either you're going to use something thick and dense to stop the base from propagating - or you'll use phase-cancellation to modify the *direction* of the base (but not its distance).
So to conclude, you can modify the direction of the bass to a certain extent (see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Subwoofer#Directional_bass ), but you can't change the distance that it covers unless you turn down the volume or eq the low-frequencies.
End of story.
Great party!
My two cents about the sound: the system was good, the placement could have been better and the volume was waaaay too high on the first day, I'm very glad that the second day was less loud (louder is not always better). I think it had to do with starting too loud during the day and then going louder by night.
All that said it was a great party that made me stay 3 days instead of the planned one
Here are two short movies from my live thing:

(and why the f*cking f*ck (watching too much Dexter lately) can't I embed these??)
