Omg another deadmau5 haters thingy.
Ofcourse people can dislike his music but he is doing business pretty good imo.

He did build up a badass studio the past 2 years.

yeah, because whats important is not your music but whether youre making a lot of money and if your studio looks cool.  dutch philosophy 101

It is like collecting old ferraris.

Actually I first saw that man quite recently, when was watching youtube videos about modular synths and saw some youtube reccomends with him. First I was amazed, then dissapointed, what a dickhead I was looking at and listen to. Then I searched more, listened some of his production and found that he is some superstar, who make lot of money and blabla. But that he`s dickhead I realized, when saw him working with some modulars. So no jealously In my case I think. It has nothing to do with that he is making money.

edit: it`s nice, that he put his money to modular synths instead buying tons of cocaine. but probably he`s doing both tongue

I bet he does cool stuff with that modular setup.
Some stuff just doesn't sells good.

I got some friends with craze setups like mr mouse.
But they make monney with "boring" stock music.

This is exactly what I have seen. Then I didn`t give a shit about him.

So now I may miss something, maybe is he worth to interested in? Also that his blog article isn`t far away from truth.  I thought that all that shit he wrote was obvious to everyone wealthy-minded for past few years, so he didn`t any revolution and I don`t get it, the attitude of eg. Guy Called Gerald (look at mono-poly`s link and discussion there).  Or is this another thousand times re-washed theme, which is better to have nothing to do with? Let me know, please, I`m bit, let me say, out.

Re: Deadmau5 is talking about skills ...

cant imagine so much gear is necessary to make a wah wah sound smile

Re: Deadmau5 is talking about skills ...

For most music you just need a laptop.
He might use it for more experimental stuffnwe'll never hear.

And he'll need some time to get used to those systems to.

Re: Deadmau5 is talking about skills ...

You guys are all missing a very important point here:

Regardless of whether he's cool or not... or whether his music sucks or not, people like him who buy these big systems are directly supporting and encouraging small synth manufacturers.

This means more cool toys for all of us!

The big three manufacturers (Yamaha, Roland & Korg) generally stopped innovating a long time ago and are continually rehashing the same crappy rompler with a few bells and whistles.

But the boutique hardware synth industry has exploded with amazing and weird ideas. It's a fantastic time to be into synths and innovative musical interfaces.

Yes. This is a good point.

Re: Deadmau5 is talking about skills ...

thats a terrible point, so it's good that these things are selling because of hype?  whatever happened to substance?

Re: Deadmau5 is talking about skills ...

who cares that he buys tons of this&that...are the manufacturers the ones who brings the beauty of a track?..or the inspiration of the one who use it?..whatever that would be..( 3 free vst plugins or 30 boxes )...

Re: Deadmau5 is talking about skills ...

right!  and to respect someone for what he owns is the epitome of ignorance

Re: Deadmau5 is talking about skills ...

If the substance is tweaking gear, it`s good point. If it is music, well, I`m not sure. Maybe it really doesn`t matter.

Re: Deadmau5 is talking about skills ...

haha thats another good point, is noodling music when you just hit the record button big_smile

Re: Deadmau5 is talking about skills ...

Well I for one ain't handing out any kudos to anybody for what they own. I'm merely raising my eyebrow at the side-effects of this.

Let me remind people that the instruments of dance music that we know and love were originally marketed at mainstream audiences, but we all benefited by the cultural rats picking up many of these failed products for dirt cheap:

Inspiring musical tools are always welcome, whatever century they're from.

Consider orchestral instruments... not something you consider cutting edge or anything like that. But 200 years ago, big technological breakthroughs were made that changed the face of composition:

It's easy to see that the nature of performance and the question of musicality and virtuosity are evolving alongside instruments.

I played a Haken Continuum the other day and was blown away by how expressive it is. I can't afford one, but would love for them to become popular and then become more affordable.

Re: Deadmau5 is talking about skills ...

embrace technology, everything could fit digitally in the equivalent of your fingernail.  and the fact remains, a room full of modulars does not make a wah wah sound better,  what makes it sound better is talent.

At first I was like, "Oh cool Metasonix stuff". Metasnoix is based out of my home town, TUBE POWER! So yeah the support there is somewhat appreciated I suppose, but then he had no clue how to use it and seemed too interested in his image on camera to care to deviate from making uninspired saw waves come out of a toy to be bothered with experimenting with the gear.

It was kind of insulting, but Eric/Metasonix probably got a nice check at least that he'll use to continue to make noisy, boarder-line unusable(musically) machines.

Re: Deadmau5 is talking about skills ...

that support argument is used way too often, buy vinyl and support the artist buy apple and support a revolution in computing when youre only selfishly supporting your way of life  but really whether or not you support them they exist out of the sheer passion of the developer.  also, no support is what keeps some of us going  cool

Re: Deadmau5 is talking about skills ...

ceb believes in no support so much that he'd refuse life support if he ever became a coma vegetable!  tongue

that and cannabis!  wink

Re: Deadmau5 is talking about skills ...

i say save the hand-holding for children and as foreplay to dry humping and ask yourself if this supposed "support" isnt really self-preservation or a form of conservatism
