Topic: How to get started with a Eurorack modular system

I want to get a eurorack modular system in the following year,

I'd like to know where to get more information on how to get an affordable case and power supply.
Are there inexpensive kits available from other sources than Doepfer?
I've seen people using generic cases that were compatible(i think it was europac).
Can somebody point me to a site with this information?

thanks

Buy this frame

http://www.etnshops.com/supermoduul/listings/35.html

And get a Power-One psu from ebay witch does +5 +15 -15
Trim the +-15 to =-12 volt.

Avoid Doepfer and Analogue Solutions.

i don't need the gear, the gear needs me

I've been thinking of this too (again.)

People sell their old frames on Ebay all the time for cheap I see.

thanks Mono, your reply put me on the right track, enough keywords for a serious google search.

That subrack frame will fit into ikea rast but you will need 19 inch rack side rails, it is a little bulky then a suitcase portable mounting but can look quite classy if you add side handles and stain to the wood. If you want portable you can go pelican case and just purchase the subrack rails without the rack sides. Mono's suggestion is both sides and rails and rack strips for mounting screws. I will get around to posting a pic of my rast euro one day.

I know you don't like the sound and build quality of their modules, but why avoid their racks and psu's?

Re: How to get started with a Eurorack modular system

because the enclosures are fucking expensive and totally overpriced. a 6U rackmountable with PSU and two power
strips goes for around 350 euros....

You can obtain the same result with the above mentioned enclosure, the above mentioned PSU and maybe the only
thing you need to get from Doepfer is the distribution strip, if you can't find it anywhere and you don't want to spend
time making it on your own....

by the way, the owner of that dutch shop speaks english as well? I might order him something like 10 of those
enclosures... big_smile
