yep, those 'details' (which are actually 'highly important') can make a the difference idd..
don't know much about pressing plants, but for (re)mastering old tapes this guy knows what to do..

Re: Linear Movement - On The Screen (Minimal Wave)

@rude... yes my aim has always been to release music with a good sound quality... so some 80's stuff (Trumpett archive tracks) I did not release as there was no way to restore it in a good way... not even with a good mastering and a good pressing plant... which all my release go through...

it is a GZ pressing... says enough... I never press there for this reason... you can press on ultra heavy vinyl and still you can get shitty records from them...

What is a "GZ pressing"??

Re: Linear Movement - On The Screen (Minimal Wave)

a record pressed by GZ in the czech republic. it's an old plant from the communist days (which means nothing, record industry has an old basis too) and they used to be a very cheap alternative to 'proper' plants. all the early bunker etc stuff was pressed there. these days they are not so cheap anymore, and their quality depends highly on what you give them as master. some things are good, others horrible. like a lot of plants, they seem to press anything you send them without trying to improve it...

Re: Linear Movement - On The Screen (Minimal Wave)

Ok.
How many pressing plants do exist at all here in Europe?

Hm, that reminds me on that Novamen - Lies "accident". What a pity, that there is no quality version, which is really fun to play, up to now...

Re: Linear Movement - On The Screen (Minimal Wave)

i actually have no ideas how many are left. there used to be many, but a majority closed in the 80's and 90's, with a few kicking the bucket in the last few years too, mainly because of the decline of dance vinyl.

the ones i know:

-curved in uk
-optimal, celebrate, MMP and r.a.n.d. in germany
-audiodisc in sweden
-microwatt in italy
-vinylium in belgium
and GZ and of course record industry in holland.

the smallest and most indie/punk of all pressing plants is the 7 inch only Ameise in Germany...

This is an awesome LP. I love the artwork on all the MW releases but this might be the best.

The sound on the vinyl is a little hissy sometimes but that just makes it more punk wink

Yeah, but I say: Better hissy than plingy... wink

Compare:

Shitty pressed Novamen - Lies with totally annoying plings (they come the same time like the hiss sounds)

And the quality original version without the plings
-> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SsBZ0WsS … re=related

What a monster track!! And what a shame, that there is no quality vinyl of it.
It's ridiculous, when I remember how long we had to wait for this record to be released and now I can use it as a beer coaster...

Sorry for posting off-topic.

The Linear Movement LP is great. Alone the cover is worth the purchase. The best tracks are "Way out of Living" and "The Game".

In the mastering console i do spot:

Neumann stereo W495stb eqs
Neumann compressor U473A

Should be the right tools.

Re: Linear Movement - On The Screen (Minimal Wave)

this reminds me of a tale i heard about oktava microphones. depending on which day the run was done decided the quality of the microphone. mondays were a bad batch with quality peaking on wednesday and thursaday. friday was to be avoided at all costs. the only way to be sure of getting a good mic was buying direct from the factory on the production day otherwise it was a lottery. just maybe GZ has a similar story.
