Topic: Trouble selling gear....

Do you have a piece or pieces of gear that you want to sell but a the same time every time you begin to make a post somewhere about it, you just think naaaaaw, that's a dumb idea....

For me it's my jomox x-base 09. I've had it for about 7 years, I really feel like in some ways I've used it as much as I can (pretty much every track i've ever made in the past 7 years has some sound from it, although it may be super processed). Then I turn it on an just bop on the kick and snare buttons a for a second and am like... naaaaw. But aside from jamming out on it on ocassion and liveshows, I really don't use it that much nowadays, and I feel like I could get pretty good moneys for it.

Decisions.....

Re: Trouble selling gear....

why sell if it's a good machine?
it could end up in wrong hands making horrible music.

but if you use it for liveshows, keep it. it sounds like a good enough reason to me. and in the meantime you can let a friend use it, that's good karma smile

Re: Trouble selling gear....

Ive sold 4 pieces and I regret 3.
3 times it was because I needed money.
Think Im never ever gonna sell anything again.

Re: Trouble selling gear....

yeah the needing money thing is kinda rearing its ugly head....

i kinda wish i didn't graduate during "this difficult economic time" as i'm making less money now than I was during the majority of my college time.

Re: Trouble selling gear....

i can recommend selling stuff you don't use that much or have used a lot. gives you a little extra money to buy something else which might spark an idea or two. you can usually sell things for the same price you got it for or even a little more. having a museum of things you never use seems pointless to me.

sell that crappy piece of technotoy and get some real gear.

Re: Trouble selling gear....

if you're not using it, it makes sense to sell, especially if you think it'll go for reasonable money
but if you see it as an integral part of your sound or working process it would be harder to let go

its easier to sell gear with the knowledge that you're upgrading/replacing than just needing the cash

if you use it for live stuff, could you do some more live gigs and get some money to help your situation

or sell it and replace it with another drum machine that would work live but might inspire you a bit more too.

Re: Trouble selling gear....

Just sold my mpc because i needed moneyz. Didnt use it alot but still like the workflow on that thing. Think im gonna re-buy it at some point.

Re: Trouble selling gear....

so far I've managed to only sell stuff I can do without, but it's been hard to resist selling some of the least used bits when in need of money...

Re: Trouble selling gear....

Pretty pissed off with my brother for selling his juno 6 and qy70 recently after i asked him a hundred times if i could buy them and him saying no, even after i had them in my studio for 2yrs the bugger!
He only got 110 pounds for the juno and it was in top notch stupiddd!

"positive mutation!"

Re: Trouble selling gear....

i usually don't have much trouble selling gear, often it's to fund a new purchase seen as an upgrade.

But I have this little Yamaha Cs-5 I can't sell, I don't like it for anything but 1 patch, a little resonant xylophone type sound I can't, for the life of me, reproduce on any other synth!

So it sits there doing one little thing, saved from selling because of its bizarre little bandpass filter.
