hello robots and robettes,
post here your favorite cocktails and tips to make proper ones at a reasonable price (where do you usually buy your liquors etc) because it's quite expensive to get some in cocktails bars and places are usually way too fancy.

I once had something called "mexican zombie" or something like that, cant remember the full name, it was in a pint tumbler and basically tasted of straight rum.... a zombie I was.

Re: cocktails ?

if you like rum...there are plenty of cocktail recipes on the Sailor Jerry site(guess u can substitute SJ for the rum of ur choice)

http://sailorjerryrum.com/recipes.php?site=us

not a cocktail....but if u like tequila(i prefer the tequila chilled in the fridge)....instead of salt/lemon....get a plate, heavily spead it with cinnamon powder, then get nice juicy orange segments & toss in the cinnamon

I was in a cocktail bar in London one night and I was blazing drunk, I asked the barman to choose me a shot of tequila, he gave me some spiel about this tequila being aged in oak barrels for ??years (i was pretty drunk) then he gave me lemon, stopped himself and switched for an orang sprinkled with cinnamon and sugar....

Jesus! best damn shot of tequila ive ever had, at

Re: cocktails ?

in romania...we had " tuica " or " palinca ". many peasants here had their own mini distillery recipes. it's hot like hell. it reaches even 80% alchool...the best is between 52-64%. it's made of plumes, pears...

Re: cocktails ?

at the moment i like dark and stormy or Hemingway Daiquiri, although anything with rum is ok. anyone in london at the end of october needs to go to this: http://www.rumfest.co.uk/

Re: cocktails ?

@meschi....coolexx man, but it's not smth i would drink in a bar , it's pricy, messy & they don't put enough cinnamon on it(& the orange segments are usually pretty minging)...but it is an ace drink fo' sho'

Re: cocktails ?

white russians rule. best one I have ever had was made by some girl in the brunswick on new years eve before heading off to a party. REALLY well made.

Re: cocktails ?

manhattan cocktail, a classic one like the martini, but less dry wink its my fave one, i love it!
http://images.inmagine.com/img/foodcollection/fdc_single13/fdc941658.jpg
4 cl canadian whisky
2 cl vermuth rosso
1 dash angostura bitter
1 cocktail cherry
but unfortunately i cant seem to make it properly on my own, always way too bitter, so my recipe is maybe in need of improvement. lol

Re: cocktails ?

most cockatails made in a bar have a sweet syrup or sugar added to them to make them sweeter. recommend this book i got for christmas btw..

edit: have to admit i've not hosted any 'legendary cocktail parties' yet because of it though..

Re: cocktails ?

Gotta be Long Island Ice Tea sooo smooth and strong.

Ther used to be a drink called a 'headfuck' which was basically double jack, double white rum lime and a shot of drambuie with a dash of soda !

A paranoid is someone who knows a little of whats really going on.

Re: cocktails ?

White russians are perfect hang over drinks, long island ice tea is devilish, its like a snake in the grass you dont know what happened before you lying on the ground and can barely move. Theres this drink we invented on a vacation klumpen, Coke + Baileys. The acid in the coke emulfies the baileys and it turns kind of into a pudding, you can eat it with a spoon, it's not a very good drink but still pretty cool.

The dark and stormy is the national drink of bermuda

Try it with Goslings Black Seal rum and Barritts Bermudan Ginger beer

Re: cocktails ?

I also like a good Margarita, can't usually get good tequila in the uk though unfortunately (not for a cheap price anyway).

@r2dj: nice. need to take a trip to bermuda

Re: cocktails ?

A nice trick i learned a few ways back is to rub lemon on the rim of the glass. Very effective.
