another one of my favourites called beton: becherovka tonic.

im not a big fan of tonic and the becherovka is even pure pretty good when its well cooled. but i once experienced that it can also be pretty malicious. uiuiui tongue

another national liqueur, which i like a lot, is spanish "hierbas" (herbes de mallorca)(semi, ca. 30% alc), an aniseed cordial. i believe theres also a ibiza version, but ive never tested it yet. i prefer my hierbas pure and cooled, but you may also mix it, i guess. wink

edit: uh, i just forgot it s about cocktails here. sorry.

White russians are perfect hang over drinks, long island ice tea is devilish, its like a snake in the grass you dont know what happened before you lying on the ground and can barely move. Theres this drink we invented on a vacation klumpen, Coke + Baileys. The acid in the coke emulfies the baileys and it turns kind of into a pudding, you can eat it with a spoon, it's not a very good drink but still pretty cool.

that bailey's and coke looks rough,i'm not gonna try that!!

Re: cocktails ?

I'm also all about the dark rum..I drink Cuba Libres (dark rum, coke & lots of fresh lime).

Otherwise I love French Martinis..freshly muddled pinapple juice, vodka and chambord.

Also shots of Zubrowka and Agua. And pinot grigio. I think I'm an alcholic.

Music is a beautiful opiate, if you don't take it too seriously.

This mexican joint I ate at the other week (cafe pacifico in darlinghurst, for any sydney robots) boasts the largest tequila selection in the southern hemisphere, apparently. Drank some pretty expensive mescal and tequila, also tried a cocktail which was something like a caprihini or capriosca (im not sure the difference can anyone tell me?) with muddled jalapeno peppers, was goood

Re: cocktails ?

With muddled jalepenos, nice!, we only put jalapenos in our bloody marys, that sounds interesting. Apparently a caprioscas with vodka instead of cachaca, cant say i ever made one with vodka tho.

Man i got to brush up on my cocktail knowledge, i worked in cocktail bars for 3 yrs but i can only remember like 5 cocktails straight off. We used to have tests on them too and the amount i made every night, shameful.
Mind i used make some killer cocktails, i used to put extra in for my friends and people i liked, they would be falling off the stool after a few.
But cocktails arent all about the strength how much booze is in them, its about balance innit.

i have an utter hatred for wanky bars. I prefer bars with sawdust on the floor and dogs runnin about. the local drunk o.a.p. being chucked out cause hes pissing against the bar kinda place.

Re: cocktails ?

i went to a few nice tequila bars in texas, there was a really good one in san antonio but i forget the name (not surprising). i was amazed by the diversity of them - as good as drinking a nice rum or scotch for me. mescal drove me slightly round the bend for a bit though after a few binges on the stuff - and it tastes of old boots!

Thats why you need to knock it back without it touching the sides!

Dark rum is the shit. Recently I've been drinking the aforementioned Goslings Black Seal, as well as

I have a bottle of Appleton Extra 12 years to look forward after my trip to Jamaica too

Also there is a new local rum called Seven Fathoms. It is aged in casks that are stored at seven fathoms depth in the waters surrounding Cayman - the slight movement of the water on the casks is supposed to lead to an excellent flavour.

juuuuust beautiful. i'm in the mood for rum now. but tonight i reckon i'ma pour a couple of generous drams of this stuff, try and finally put paid to a cold that's been buggin me :

from the Oddbins website

Tasting Notes : A huge, dry, peaty style with hints of iodine and a long smooth finish. Notes of orange, toffee and heath all feature.
Producer : Lagavulin
Method of Production : Lagavulin takes its water from the Solum Lochs, contributing some of the whisky's peatiness. Malt peated with 35ppm of phenolic flavour compounds passes this flavour into the spirit. The malt is ground, washed several times with hot water which is then fermented producing wash. The spirit was produced through 2 distillations in the distillery's 4 medium sized fat stills. The whisky is mellowed and filled out by ageing in both Bourbon and Sherry casks.

Re: cocktails ?

I've got a reputation for this one... I use to mix 10 litres of B52's and 12 litres margherita's to celebrate my birthdays big_smile
A good and cheap way to make white russians is to mix 30 cc coffee liquer (Kahlua) + 30cc Wodka, fill up the glass with your taste of cold milk... ready!

Ooowwhh... that Lagavulin looks tasty! Hopefully end of this week I get a Coal Ila 15, or 18 years...

Re: cocktails ?

definently man. bacardi is generally utter shite... but I was in a 'wanky' bar with my work for a leaving do and this is the only rum they had. thought Id give it a go as it wasnt clear and really liked it. for me, only to be drunk straight with lime.... so im a bit pissed now. but fuck it, I dont get the weekend off, I gotta find time to drink elsewhere tongue

Re: cocktails ?

Yep that bacardis good, aww thought had some here but the bottles empty.
We used make mojitos and then put a layer of Bacardi 151 ontop, which is 75 percent , its got a flammable warning on the back. Is good for molotov cocktails! ha ha

Havana Club and Mount Gay do nice rums too
oh yeah Ron Centenario from South America, nice! shit they do some good rums there.

"caipiroska" although it sounds terrible and like a bastard name for a cocktail but it's just so refreshing and no headache-alert! just white sugar instead of brown sugar and vodka instead of cachaca, that's all
