Astronaut Edgar Mitchell stunned British radio listeners by claiming aliens exist in outer space - and that they've made contact with Earth several times.

The ex-NASA scientist - whose 9hr 17min walk on the Moon during the 1971 Apollo 14 mission is still the longest - said UFO visits to us had been covered up for 60 years.

Dr Mitchell, 77, told Kerrang! Radio that sources at the space agency, who had contact with aliens, described them as little people with large heads and eyes. But they were not hostile, he told host Nick Margerrison. "If they were, we'd be gone by now," Dr Mitchell said. "Our technology is not nearly as sophisticated".

He added: "I've been in military and intelligence circles who know we have been visited." And material famously recovered at Roswell, New Mexico, in 1947 was from a UFO, he claimed.

Margerrison said yesterday: "It was a shock to hear this coming from a respected scientist."

But a NASA spokesman said: "We do not share Dr Mitchell's opinions on this."

Ofcourse aliens exist inouter space hes right on that. There must be thousands or millions of planets with e.t life on. Outer space is a big place.
But as too them visiting us, i dont think so, and everyone knows roswell was a weather balloon.

Why is it that everybody believes that there 100 % must be alien intelligence 18982319813 billion light years away, but theres just no way that it could be here or nearby? The only thing that has been said with certainty by SETI is that they scanned the nearest planets for radiosignals and found none. Thing is we dont know what life we can expect, it might be so far ahead that our imagination isnt close to comprehending it. Just think of our pretty young race, already talking about artificial intelligences and androids for years, and were getting closer every day to that scenario. What does a species that has been around for maybe 100.000 years more look like?

Old news about Mitchell believing in ET by the way, i thought "everyone" knew (i mean it shouldnt be a surprise to BBC).

Maybe aliens are humans from the future, of course that if we can time travel we would already have visited our past! Some say aliens look like humans, who knows how we will look like 99999 years from now

Yep all wise words from you guys, who knows what form they might take, they could be just a bunch of floating atoms or energy of some sort.
Something ive found out lately is all those radio signals we have been putiing out from our planet, transmissons from the last 60 odd yrs. By the time they reach any nearby star they would have turned into unrecognizable white noise , just mixed in with the rest of the natural space noise.
So all that stuff they say on tv about aliens one day getting our signals is pants.
Yes but who knows maybe theyre closer than we think and thinking our tv and music sucks.

To me it doesn't make any sense at all sending "radio transmissons" or whatever, WTF??? How the hell are they going to hear that? Aliens don't even talk! How do we know they hear, or use the same type of communication as humans?

these are just radio signals that have been escaping our planet into space for how many yrs, they havent been sent on purpose for aliens.

Yeah, we need to get around the fact that our western-traditional logic doesnt apply universally...it doesnt even apply on an overall earthly level, although we are still brought up to believe that. I think scanning for radio waves makes sense and its good to do it. Problem is that many of these SETI and and other debunker types are really lousy at accepting human limitations and think a bit like colonialists sometimes. But on the other hand it doesnt help that evidence isnt very clear and easy to present + that there are thousands of nutty people without critical sense making an easy point of ridicule. Blond aliens and reptiles from other dimensions is just such a wack concept (proves indeed limited imagination IMO).

But it doesnt have to be either black or white like many try to make it out as.

well, all i know is that the universe is for our limited imaginativeness inconceivable huge and that it is still expanding (even if against zero). and if i think about that the (propotional to the universe just very few) stars we can see, except for some  exceptions which are actually planets, are suns or whole galaxis, i can hardly believe theres no other life out there, may it be life as we know it or different form(s) of life (we probably cannot even imagine).
on the other side, the developement of life as we know it here on earth came off due to several odd and almost improbable circumstances, so that it is also possible that these concurrence of circumstances was unique and that we are in fact alone.
but who knows.. i dont.

biotek, its a fact in the way that its just a particular tradition of what makes right or wrong etc. It might have been some other line of thought that came to dominate and shape the world, which would have made things completely different. It depends on how much you see technological progress in connection to a certain outlook of life i guess.
