Re: Hamburg

Sleeping:

Check these guys, they are cool and rent private rooms in St.Pauli:
http://www.pauli-tourist.de/front_conte … mp;idcat=1

others:

http://www.sankt-pauli-lodge.de/en/home.html  nice located and quite new.
http://www.bed-and-breakfast-hamburg.de/ cosy spot, but not exactly where the nightlife happens. Site is in german, but there is an email adress at the bottom. I suppose they speak english
http://www.kogge-hamburg.com/ A small rock n roller hotel. The bar is the reception, so maybe a bit loud. Located directly at the harbour in famous St.Pauli

Bars:

http://www.lelion.net/  When it comes to the quality of drinks, this is the best bar in Hamburg. Was rated 5th best bar in the world recently. It's really small and you have to ring a bell. Reservation recommended. On the other site of the street there is a nice french brasserie called Cafe Paris. http://www.cafeparis.net/ Nice for breakfast. Both located in the city centre near the town hall. This district is nearly abandoned at nighttime.

http://www.empire-riverside.de/hamburg_ … ounge.aspx A bar on the 20 th floor of a brand new hotel. They expect sporty-elegant wardrobe and boring people are hanging around, but the view is really nice

Clubs:

You should see the Golden Pudel Club. www.pudel.com It's small, it's dirty, but lovely located at the harbour and entrance is only 2 Eur at weekends and the drinks are quite cheap.

For other club nights, just mail me when you know your exact date of stay, so I will have a look and tell you.

Shopping:

Check out the Marktstr. near subway Station Feldstr.(U3) or the Schanzenviertel (nearby)

You should rent a bike, it's perfect to explore Hamburg:

Motorstation Altona

I liked the BeatClub. It's near hotel Kogge which is a fun place too stay. Only Kogge is maybe not the right hotel to go with a girlfriend..

TB or not TB

Re: Hamburg

I forgot to mention, that Hamburg is a city with lots of water,
it is the city with the most bridges in Europe. 2485, more than Amsterdam Venice and Stockholm together.

you can rent a canoe or a sailing boat @ for example

Bobby Reich
Fernsicht 2,
Telefon 0 40/48 78 24,
open from ca. 9am till dawn (ca. 9pm)

with a sailing boat you can cruise on the lake alster, it is a pent up river in fact.
with a canoe it's more fun to cuise on the numerous channels, they should have a plan there.

You can also use the harbour ferries with your local mass transit ticket, they all start @ Landungsbr

Re: Hamburg

going to check that cannoe thingie, sounds nice. Thx!!:)

Re: Hamburg

I think I'll be not in town this weekend.
On sunday, there will be a small open air near the harbour, it starts at 3pm and willl be hosted by the "I feel this" crew.
http://www.myspace.com/i_feel_this
Style will be nice disco/house. There will be a BBQ and it's nicely located. And it's for free.
Location: http://www.oberhafenkantine-hamburg.de/ … .17.0.html

Re: Hamburg

oh theres disco stuff going on in Hamburg? tell me more...

Re: Hamburg

not that often, but some times there is some disco. Mostly by the "I feel this" crew or this guys http://www.myspace.com/tanzschulekaracho
btw, Neidklub sucks in my opinion. Too many really young people and wannabee hipsters. Baalsaal is quite okay, although it's run by the same people. But it's small and loud and you are doomed to dance, because there is no real bar/chat area. I always take my earplugs with me when I go there, to prevent buzzing in my ear on the next day.
You should visit the Golden Pudel Club. It's really small, so on Friday and Saturday a bit crowded. www.pudel.com
08.08 Booty Carell & Schlammpeitziger http://www.myspace.com/schlammpeitzigerjozimmermann strange, but I kind of like him, he's a funny guy
09.08 Icarus http://www.myspace.com/icaruselectronic electronixx, Sunday is the nicest day to go

Oh yeah, a nice place to have some starting drinks is the Luba Luft Lounge www.lubaluft.de , not music-wise, but the cocktails are really good, some say among the best in Hamburg and there are reasonable priced and it doesn't have this boring cocktail bar touch.

We now have some public bikes, that you can rent. www.stadtradhamburg.de (only in german)
first half hour is free, but you have to pay 5

Re: Hamburg

Ive been at Baalsaal recently to see Theo Parrish...really small indeed and yes those hipsters are everywhere, hehe

do you know any site to check some gigs? I only look at prinz.de every now and then...

thanks, will keep my eyes open!

Re: Hamburg

going there next week wednesday till saturday (I'll miss out saturday evening), anything outrageously exciting to do?

Re: Hamburg

nothing outrageously exicting.
As it will be really hot, you might fancy a swim in an outdoor pool.
There is a nice public pool in Finkenwerder http://bit.ly/95EfCH You can go there by taking a harbour ferry to Finkenwerder, which is nice small boat trip too. The ferries start at Landungsbrücken.

Another tip is to grab a few cold beers and go through the old Elbtunnel (near Landungsbrücken) to the other side of the river Elbe. You have a nice view and it isn't that crowded over there. http://img.skitch.com/20100712-bdi8tupa … 7fbiau.jpg

For nightife you should check out the Golden Pudel www.pudel.com They have a nice outdoor area. Maybe thursday is the best, because on Weekends it's gonna be really crowded.

For eating:
Just across the street of the Luba, mentioned in a former post, there is an nice small restaurant called Krug
http://www.qype.com/place/1031211-Krug-Hamburg
My favourite turkish "restaurant" is also near and they are open 24/7! You can sit outside too.
http://www.qype.com/place/193698-Gazi-Antep-Hamburg
For a nice and reasonable priced thai lunch in the Schanzenviertel visit the Galerie Tolerance
http://www.qype.com/place/5510-Galerie- … ce-Hamburg

The Beat  Club doesn't exist any more, so don't search for this one.
If you like parks, visit "Planten und Blomen". Every night at 10pm there are some strange "Wasserlichtspiele", where they illuminate water fountains synched to some music they play.
http://www.hamburg.de/hamburg-erkunden/ … mburg.html

On saturday there is an open air at the harbour http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=1 … mp;index=1
so depending on when you leave you might check it out.

Re: Hamburg

hey there, thanks for all the good tips and was fun bumping into you yesterday at the flora. WIll check the other side of the elbe and hang around gaenge-viertel in the evening probly.

Re: Hamburg

Gängeviertel is nice, was fun inded to meet you, although I was pretty drunk.
Maybe you wanna take a boat ride this evening, really small shipps, that cruise the harbour with some music on it. http://www.frauhedi.de/ but maybe the tip is too late.

Re: Hamburg

hallo. am in hamburg this week with work for few days. see dam funk is playing at neidklub on thursday. how is this place? any robots going to it ?

and how easy is it got get tickets to see hamburg sv play on saturday? pity st pauli are away at cologne this weekend.

Re: Hamburg

Neidklub sucks imho. Lots of hipster kiddies and a beer is 3,50€. If you don' mind both, go ahead.
For the HSV game: https://www.eventimsports.de/shops/index.php3?shopid=38 You should be able to get a ticket.

There is an art installation @ Deichtorhallen at the Moment, so if you are into bouncing smile http://www.deichtorhallen.de/677.html

There is a big wheel in the HafenCity at the moment too http://www.hamburg.de/hamburger-hafen/2 … ncity.html (german only)

I will have a look and might post some interesting stuff later, have fun.

Re: Hamburg

There is a Disco party @ Pudel on Thursday:
09.09.
Gatto Musculoso
Disco Stravagante
w/ Emil Grelck, Block Barley, Phuong-Dan http://www.myspace.com/phudan

and the next day Efdemin is playing there (not so bad too)

edit: Efdemin will also play @ the Dachgarten of Übel&Gefährlich on Saturday (normally starting time is around 18:00 and it will end at 24:00, will be canceled when the weather is bad) It's a nice and realy small location on a bunker roof and usually costs only 3€)
Only down is, that you have to wait quite long for your beer due to a non professional bar staff.
