Topic: Science Fiction and Electronic Music

Hello all,
I'm doing a research for the university about the influence of Science Fiction on electronic music.
So I'm searching for movies with electronic musical scores like Forbidden Planet but also bands, covers, video clips and night clubs with a very Sci-Fi style.
I will be glad if you have any names to share, any videos or covers to drop !

Re: Science Fiction and Electronic Music

check out zombie zombie, john carpenter, gatekeeper.

Yeah I saw that Zombie Zombie played some Carpenter Classics but I didn't know Gatekeeper.
Edit : my mistake, I didn't know the band "zombi".

I totally forgot that Andromeda strain contains electronic music score, thanks !

Re: Science Fiction and Electronic Music

This definitely is not from this world:

You were just a damn sequencer
Moving to the beat
Living with a synthesizer
Cold as a repeat

Re: Science Fiction and Electronic Music

check "welt am draht"  by fassbinder. Can't think of a more intense electronic soundtrack.

Re: Science Fiction and Electronic Music

concerning the model 500 + dreciya post:
be sure to look into 'Afrofuturism' and 'The Third Wave' by Alvin Toffler

Re: Science Fiction and Electronic Music

Thanks !
Score100 : Do you have any link where I can listen to the soundtrack of Welt am Draht ?

Re: Science Fiction and Electronic Music

also check the bbc synth brittanica docu.
theres some info in there aswell on literature and synth music.

Re: Science Fiction and Electronic Music

Wow, I think there's tons of stuff! I mean futurism has always been a cornerstone in electro. At first completely sincere, now a sort of nostalgic retro-futurism in many cases.

Re: Science Fiction and Electronic Music

besides the better-known stuff (ie bladerunner) maybe you will be interested in these movies and soundtracks:

Re: Science Fiction and Electronic Music

If you can count video games in your "Science Fiction on electronic music" thesis, then Mass Effect (1 & 2) have some lovely atmospheric electronic music (not all of it is great though!)

Re: Science Fiction and Electronic Music

With video games it will be a bit too much for now I think. It's not a thesis, just an hour oral presentation. So I need some video clip like dee dee jackson's, or I Wanna be your Lover by La Bionda.
Tek : The synth brittania documentary was very cool. Also, thanks for your vids Hysteric !

I also remember or found cool stuff by theses composers : Jerry Goldsmith (Tron, Logan's Run), Eduard Artemyev (Stalker, Solaris), Piero Umiliani, The BBC Workshop (for Blake's 7 and The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy), some ad by Raymond Scott (Bendix, the tomorow people) and some Bruce haack's albums (Hush Little Robot).
And of course a lot of new wave bands, some italo and space disco, Cybotron...

Re: Science Fiction and Electronic Music

Yeah I know the soundtrack of "la planète sauvage" by Goraguer, very nice. A strange movie btw. But I think it's more kind of experimental/funk than purely electronic stuff.

Re: Science Fiction and Electronic Music

But you just remind of Gandahar ! (Light Years in english)  Thanks.  wink haven't seen it in a while but I think there's electro music for the black robots and the big brain.
Is anyone here have seen "Les Maîtres du temps" by the same director ? (René Laloux) There are probably some synths too.
