Three of Glasgow's best clubs join forces at The Admiral for a Hogmanay spectacular!
Melting Pot is currently celebrating its tenth anniversary in 2011 raising the bar spectacularly by hosting rooms at The Electric Frog festival with the likes of Frankie Knuckles, Joaquin "Joe" Claussell, Francois K and Danny Krivit playing there, and also continuing to bring the best guests monthly to The Admiral; with Joey Negro and Andrew Weatherall making their MP debuts this year. MP are at the forefront of pushing the club soundsystem to new levels of clarity to be heard anywhere, and continue to invest to enable MP to have a worldwide reputation on this front.
Highlife is the brainchild of Slabs of the Tabernacle's Brian D'Souza and Huntleys & Palmers Andrew Thomson. Created 18 months ago, as an outlet to play music from out with the normal spheres of influence of western house and techno. Highlife has embraced new music coming from the likes of Mexico's Rebolledo and Chile's Alejandro Paz, who will also be playing on the night, along with the expansive output of African artists. With a residency at La Cheetah, Highlife has also become one of the monthly Sunday nights at The Sub Club, along with one off nights at Stereo! There will also be a special New Year live performance from Brian's Auntie Flo project with Esa Williams whose debut releases in 2011 have been in the boxes of Giles Peterson, Andrew Weatherall, Joy Orbison, Caribou and many others.
Divine! is a Glasgow institution - the longest running club in the city (21 years and counting), with a new home at The Admiral after the Art School's demise. Resident Andrew "Divine" Symington specialises in northern soul, heavyweight funk, Tamla Motown, sixties freakbeat, dynamite ska, E-Z listening and psychedelic soundtracks - a unique blend of established classics and new discoveries. His record collecting skills are a thing of legend! Joining Andrew will be Hushpuppy a co-resident at Divine! for many years, resident at the long running Art School night Record Playerz and also Death Disco at The Arches.
