Eg-101 Roland keyboard ?
anybody got one?

i tested one for my friend who wanted to buy it, and i didn't like it. it was made like one of those all-in-one instant rave techno dnb machines. the sounds were not editable as i remember, but there is a sampler, and it has got a sequencer which i never tested. i guess it would be great if you are planning on making 90s dance music if you can get it for under 100eur then it might be worth it
Awfull Box stay away at all costs, Get a Yamaha RMX 1. or an SH-32...
I was wondering if anyone had any experience with the Casio VZ-1 or VZ-10m?
If so how reliable are they and how does the sound compare to the Casio cz series of synths.
Juno 60 or 106?
The 106 has midi but often has problems with dead voices.
It is said the 60 does sound better but i have to get a DCB to midi interface and i want one that is cheap and where i don't have to open the Juno.
The JUNO-60 sounds warmer, better imo. I used a 106 two weeks ago in a friend's studio and it sounded good but not as warm as the 60. The controls are nearly the same. But don't forget about the arpeggiator of the 60 - it's a great tool and lot of fun! I have a CHD interface (external) for my JUNO-60 and you can controll everything with this thing i guess (but it's not cheap). And don't forget about the wooden sides of a JUNO-60! Even if you don't make music you have a beautyfull piece of gear to look at
Imo, best is to get both the 60 and 106 at some point. They make a great pair. Except for midi the 60 also lacks portamento but despite that the 60 is probably the best first choice. It's warmer and bigger sounding, but a lot of that is also due to the chorus.
For midi on the Juno 60 you have 3 options that you can get new; the Kenton Pro, the Czech CHD or the Dutch Dtronics kit. On the 2nd hand market you could also look for the Roland MD-8 but they are rare. Actually, accept maybe the Kenton I think you won't find any midi-2-dcb that often on the 2nd hand market but maybe if you are lucky you find a Juno 60 that's already sold with one.
I think you shouldn't be too scared of building in the Dtronics kit yourself, cause that really is the cheapest midi option you have. Even if you get it done by a tech guy it might be a few bucks cheaper than the Czech alternative. But which one to choose should not only depend on whether you have a soldering iron or not. Because like the Roland MD-8 the Dtronics only sends midi note on and off, no fancy extra stuff like on the Kenton Pro or CHD.
The arpeggiator does indeed speak for the Juno 60, especially the option to use it with other synths.
Don't know how i could forget about this.
What i don't like about the dtronics is not that it only sends note on/off, but that the original DCB plug has to be soldered out. I want alter the Juno as little as possible, so maybe it's better to get a CHD if i still have the choice.
But still, if i would find a 60 with the dtronics already build in i would buy it anyway.
Is the Juno 60 more reliable in the matter of dead voice chips?
Is the Juno 60 more reliable in the matter of dead voice chips?
So far, yes. In theory the 60 can have this problem too tho, but it's far less common. I never saw anybody having the same issues as with the 106.
A more common Juno 60 problem you see popping up on forums from time to time is that it seems like after the last note gets released, it gets stuck playing in the background. You can hear it faintly continue endlessly until you play another note, which then gets stuck. This is probably a VCA problem. The effect might differ per Juno cause some people say it's pretty loud whilst other say it's no problem to them when the Juno is in the mix. I have no real problem with it myself.
Another typical Juno 60 problem is the malfunction of certain push buttons, they get stuck or hard to press.
hi guys,
finally i'm just about buying a Jupiter 4. Seller says it's in good condition (let's see, i'd be able to try it before buying, so..)
Price is 1200. And would like to ask you , if there is some issue i'd need to be warned about this synth..
does it seem a good deal for you?
thanks very much in advance,
D.
hmm, a guy locally is looking to sell juno-106 for $650.00. did I miss something and they went up in price like that recently? on the other hand, it's a very rare chance to come by a juno locally, and no paypal thus no ebay easily available here..

Oh, my JX8P has this from time to time. It doesn't disappeared after cleaning the keyboard contacts, so you're probably right that it has something to do with the VCA. I just hope it doesn't get worse.
Anyway, thank you guys for the clues.
I share the opinion of getting both Junos (that would be Juno heaven ), but for now i'm just too afraid of dead voices, so i think i'll go for a Juno 60 first (if i can find one).

I would go for it! My personal limit for a Juno 106 would be 550 EUR when it is in a good condition. Yours is about 480 EUR, so i think it's not a bad price. Another plus is that you can check it for dead voices.
yeah, it's the upper limit of acceptable. given the price, condition will be the determining factor. any other typical old age 106 issues to look out for, besides dead voice chip and slider/key action problem?
When I was on the lookout for a Juno, I figured it would be a better deal to get a 60 because they don't suffer from dead voices. Getting a 106 for 650$ and then having to put in 200$ down the road is less interesting. But if you must have all the midi functions then it's worth it.
My tech repairs the voices with the acetone trick, apparently then problem is the traces on the board that corrode and fail, the components themselves are still functional.
As for the midi kits for the 60, the CHD probably doesn't cost much more than the Dtronics after you factor in the installation cost of the latter, but to me the advantage was the fact that there's no extra box, adapter and cables, but of course it's way less sophisticated.

check if you have enough room, that bothers me most about the j60: it takes a lot of space..
Anybot has experience with Roland SPV-355 ??
someone is selling one here and i'm negociating.. how much??
It looks Nasty
SPV is a nice Pitch to CV unit. More for guitars, as you can play synthguitar with that thing.
Remember owner of a lonely heart by Yes? That guitar is this thing
If you are looking for one it is very cool. It is not your average FX unit.
Well i saw prices ranging from 350-1000 for the Flanger and the Phaser, this one is just as rare as the SPH Phaser, so current value will be 750 euro s or so? Maybe even 1000?
But if you dont wanna hook up a guitar or so to it, dont get it, it is a very specialised piece of gear. And wanted.
not really an should i buy question but still... what do you guys think; i have an korg mrmulti wahwah/phaser pedal im thinking about getting it out the pedal and putting it in a box with some extra pots.... there arent to many mrmulti's around so maybe i should keep it original. but i dont like pedals..... and this mister multi sounds so thight!
@ Septicstudio
Thanks mate
the "Owner of a lonely heart" reference tells me more than any complicated technical explanation.. i want that thing.

If it sounds so good that you want to use it comfortably and it's unlikely that you'll ever sell it, there's no real reason to keep it original. And as long as you don't fuck things up and keep the orignal casing you can always put it back in.
hi there,
sorry for insist but, i'm just about buying a Jupiter 4, and im not really confident.
