Topic: Can you forbid someone to use your music live?

This is a rather hilarious topic... I was watching Tom Hooker's response to Stefano Zandri claiming that "he's the original Den Harrow" singer (haha):

So Tom Hooker says that Stefano is no longer allowed to play back and sing along to Den Harrow songs where Tom sings. Tom says that Stefano should just sing himself tongue

Is that even legally enforceable in any country?

I imagine it's the kind of thing where if it is some kind of copyright violation, you would have to bring lawsuits in every jurisdiction where the person is "performing" - or rather karaoke-ing - it.

Brilliant story. I cant imagine Ozzy Osborne ever tried to stop Dio singing old Sabbath Songs. Yeah they are just performing so I dont know how he could stop him.

A paranoid is someone who knows a little of whats really going on.

lol what an amazing video! i love that tom tells us that he changed his last name because his wife didn't want to be known as "mrs. hooker" hahaha

Re: Can you forbid someone to use your music live?

haha yeah i heard about this early on
nice story, didn't tom hooker say the contract ended in 1990?
Chieregato as sidekick, lol.. at first i thought what is he doing there, but he had to say something too.

i don't think he can stop him, you can consider him as a 'coverband'. when he starts to use it for politics or commercials, that's something different.

That's the feeling I have too. I think the exception would be if the live performance were broadcast, then you get into a totally different royalty/performance rights scenario.

I'm still wondering what kind of absolute morons think Stefano is the real singer LOL

Ah, the murky waters of the Baby Records empire...still swirling after all these years!

Re: Can you forbid someone to use your music live?

there is a response from Stefano, but it's in italian and i dont understand it...if anyone could translate it that would be nice big_smile

i dont quite understand how the law works in the music business world, but i dont think its quite legal to take someone else's work and say it yours...if it is legal, then whats to stop me from going outside to some mall, put some Elvis or any other singers song, do some lip-sync and say "thats my voice".
