Topic: MPC2000 Flash Card Reader Install

so, I load up my MPC2000, go to 'disk' and it searches a lot for SCSI, then comes up "SCSI Not Ready"
Zip drive is set to terminate on and on 5... any ideas?

Actually, I'm thinking I may as well just update it now with a compact flash reader, it seems to be a very easy install... one question.

Can I use any compact flash reader, power cable and data cable?
Like something out of Maplin?

as its a hell of a lot cheaper than any of the ones on MPCSTUFF.com and the like...

Re: MPC2000 Flash Card Reader Install

It might be the SCSI fuse has blown. There are usually replacement parts on eBay for exactly this problem. Maplins should sell them too (probably cheaper than eBay). It requires some soldering skills to fix though. My friend's MPC had exactly the same thing, and apparently it's a common fault that happens.

these may be of use:

would certainly recommend using a card reader as my Jaz/Zip graveyard is pretty big,  just gave up on them eventually.

Re: MPC2000 Flash Card Reader Install

I think you can only put an internal card reader in a 2000XL. So, if that's what you've got, it sounds like a pretty sensible future-proofing, considering that zip disks are likely to start failing with age eventually...

Re: MPC2000 Flash Card Reader Install

I use an external MO drive, which is a more reliable alternative to ZIP disks. Of course a card reader would be nice too, but it's hard to find one that works (and those that work are very expensive).

Re: MPC2000 Flash Card Reader Install

The MO drives look pricy as hell too man.
I've changed my mind again, I'm going to get a hold of a replacement SCSI fuse and just replace the burnt out one in my MPC, if it's not that then Ill go down the route of replacing it with a card reader.

Re: MPC2000 Flash Card Reader Install

I bought one for about 25 EUR and later a second one (internal) for my PC, so that wasn't a problem smile but the card readers I saw were often around 100 or 150 EUR
