Topic: EML 100 demo

Holy crap. I've finally gotten my shit together and thrown something up on the interweb. A demo of my recently acquired EML 100. Some drones to start, some tinkering around with filters, duophony, scaled the keyboard to quarter tones and sounds and then I patched up an envelope follower for the last few minutes with a DR-55 modulating the filter and envelope.

All done on and through the EML 100, no effects, just through my crappy KB15 (the only amp I have,) and into Cubase through my Focusrite 26. The DR-55 is actually going through the preamp of the 100 so the output is just the 100.

You'll have to pardon the crappy editing as I'm just starting out with cubase. Why did I ever switch from Pro Tools?

About 15 mins. from a 90 minute session.

Re: EML 100 demo

It's a very rare synth, people were asking how it sounded as there's no other clips on the net, I made some sounds. It will be re-edited at a later date when I get the hang of Cubase. For some reason I could only record and edit in bars or some damn thing.

I'm really enjoying it. The keyboard and its scaling abilities, the envelopes, its patchability of course but I especially love the filter and the filter is one of the biggest differences between the 100 and the later 101.

Beefed up to 12db  like the 101 because mine was modded (only 6db stock!), can't self resonate but you can make a lot of different sounds with it. For instance, the opening drone is two filter outputs at the same time. A high pass output through one channel (EML 100 and 101 have two amp outs) and the "mode" output set between low pass and band pass through the other output and mixed together in the box. Just did the opening drone as more of an example of what you can do on the 100 that you can't do on a 101 because the 101 only has the one "mode" output where the 100 has LP out, HP out and Mode out available.

Filter can be swept all the way from LP to and through BP, HP, BR (Band Reject, also not one the 101) and back to LP. And you can leave your knob wherever you want like mostly BP but a little bit HP or one of my faves is to leave it about halfway between band reject and lowpass. Very gritty, big sound. Showed the full sweep a couple of times.

All the oscillator shapes are sweepable too. Can get a very metallic Serge-ian tone at times. I like doing a lot of FM with it.
