Il Introduzione
Ciao! Ciao! Signore e signori, as we return from our trip del nord and the cold lands of Wave Forza we are pleased to annunciare the first of several Forza bank holiday especiales to come throughout 2013. We swap the red for orange in the Forza flag on March 17th as we come together to celebrate St. Padre Pio through the mediums of italo, chicago, wave, house, disco, new beat and calcio - Amen!
Il Terrazza
The Odessa Terrazza hosts the first visit to green shores of Rotterdam’s Rick van Breugel aka Electrick Dragon. With more aliases than Smith & Jones, the Dragon has been releasing records for more than 20 years and for this live set he’ll be showcasing italoid sounds as heard on labels such as Cyber Dance, Moustache & Creme (as Pussycat with David Vunk & Seutek). Electrick Dragon brings the magic hammers primed to singe the Forza floor to a puff of smoke.
DJ support comes in the heavyweight form of the Forza Italstars featuring DJ Ken Hanzlo, DJ Gino Moonetti, DJ Sergio Omerta & DJ Barri Di Novano together with Il Residenti DJ Stefano Crosserini & DJ Sebastian Simonetti throwing down the italo dischi d’oro until the early hours. Each of these Italstars has played with us over the past 10 months either in Odessa or, as is the case with Moonetti, while we on tour once upon a time in the west. Representing Dischi Apartamente, Discoteka Lunare, Garibaldi’s Gang & Bap al Futuro, it’s gonna be a whola lotta italove all night long.
Il Casa
The Odessa landing this night features another debut visitor to Dublin with JTC aka James T. Cotton aka Dabyre [none of which are his real name] coming to jack jack jack the house. Back in 2001 around the same time that Michigan’s Tadd Mullinix adopted his hip-hop oriented Dabrye alias, he also took on the acid house alias James T. Cotton. Over the years he’s released dark hypnotic acid, house, techno, wave & new beat influenced jams on Ghostly Intl, Spectral Sound, Nation, Minimal Rome, Creme & Killekill. Not just a lone maverick playing between the lines, in 2005, Cotton teamed up with D’Marc Cantu to create 2 AM/FM. Cotton is also one half of Saturn V along with Traxx, creating pieces of masterful JackOffBeat, as well as a member of techno duo TNT with Todd Osborn. The title of his album release on Nation ‘Creep Acid’ is maybe the best way to sum up the sounds of the mysterious JTC.
Setting the scene on this floor will be Andy Doyle from the Board of Lunar Disko Recording Enterprises who played one of our favourite sets for us last year as Andrea D’Olio on the Terrazza. Joining him on the middle floor we have dashing Dublin duo, Slowburn, with releases on labels such as Uzuri, Elektrosouls, and Austere Recordings, this production duo are also first rate DJs. Expect the finest cuts from the deep side of house delivered with an acidic edge from Messers Dave Hargadon & Phil Long.
Il Calcio
This month Forza Comitata has reached an impasse in their choice of calcio to kick off this party with. Bearing in mind the day in question, and the need to foster Italiano Irlanda relations, the decision prompted heated debate amongst the Comitata. As such we decided to open up the decision to you, our dear attendees. Your contenders? Firstly we have Republic of Ireland v Italy (World Cup Group Stage, ‘94), one of the greatest Irish sporting victories of all time, played in front of a global stage at the Giants stadium. Alternatively for those of you with a more cultured palate, we have Athlone Town v A.C. Milan (UEFA Cup 2nd Rd, 1st Leg ‘75) Undoubtedly the midland clubs finest hour, featuring a pre match procession comprising the towns pipe band, bizarrely being led onto the pitch by a goat. As you can see a tricky choice, hence we've created a poll, for you, the Forza collettivo, to vote for your selezione. Choose once & choose wisely!
Il Conclusione
A chairde, after our last killer two-floor party in December featuring DJ Overdose & DJ Benetti, we’re molto eccitato about another all-star line-up. Join us & escape high up and far from the madding parade crowd to scmhooze, carouse and dance St. Padre Pio’s night away across two floors of the intimate Odessa Club. Advance tickets are available to pick-up now and all pre-purchasers will receive a Manus Sweeney-designed full-colour A3 print from the Forza Archivio - bravissimo. With draught pints a mere €3.50 and cocktails €5, it’s not over until it’s italover !
Forza Irlanda!
