Re: Simulacron limited edition interview with Beta Evers...

I think K6 started at a time, when some people were already tired of Electro.  I think it was the time when many changed their preference to Electro Disco and Italo Disco.  Today things could be different again, i dunno.

Beta is not releasing records regulary anymore anyway and K6 label is gone forever. For the Venus Noir release she had more luck and Clone distributed about half of the pressing. But that release cannot be fully compared with K6 stuff.

Reality is just a simulation

@Freek: when we searched last year for Simulacron, GZCD (CZ) was the cheapest option. I know K6 also searched again and again and compared prices across Europe again and again, but GZCD was the only affordable one for them either. The other german and european plants we contacted, asked for about 200-400 euros more for the pressing than GZCD.

Some years ago, they offered even 100 and 200 copies, what would be perfect for us, but nowadays they offer from 250 copies up only. They do not have always the same quality and seem to became more messy and expensive sinice CZ is in the EU, but are still the cheapest for small pressings. Have not asked for the latest pricelist though since we do not plan anything atm. They use to change their prices pretty often

thanks for the info

Re: Simulacron limited edition interview with Beta Evers...

Just to connect to the general discussion...

As some of you know by some years now, my Arizona EP is still in the pipe... a number of unlucky (and really sad) issues crossed my life
in the last 2/3 years, so I had to exclude a certain number of things in my life to carry on - and that record was one of the first to be put on
"indefinite hold".
More or less it is ready; the audio part is at least ready for pressing, while I still have some thoughts about the center label and some technical decisions to be made...

By seeing all these comments, I am trying to think how my situation would be.. I won't have any distributor, all would be done by myself...
I now live in Switzerland, so this means that I'm out of the EEC and possibly every sale would have to be taxed when entering any other
country... and not by my will.
So I even wonder how much I should charge for it.. guess not much more than the cost of it (I am anyways pressing it for its own sake, not
to become rich, for that I have other, non-artistic means smile..
And then I wonder: how many should I press? Bear in mind that if I press 300 and I sell them straight away (I obviously doubt it...), then I
wouldn't have any issue in pressing another 300 batch (I am totally against limited editions when there is people who would actually like
to own one).

I am quite confused, possibly now is exactly this confusion on how to handle the post-pressing that is slowing me down...

Any advices?

Re: Simulacron limited edition interview with Beta Evers...

Maybe not the right topic for these "post-pressing" questions .. Anyway ....

Desire, courage, perseverance, the will-power to do what u want to do seem to be THE main things IMO

Then finance it with your non-artistic occupation (selling a bunch of 300 has also become something not that obvious nowadays).
Try to reach the eventual targeted ppl, explaining your work/project.
Be ready for unreplied emails.
Add some luck ...
Then it should be ok wink

Re: Simulacron limited edition interview with Beta Evers...

@alex:

i think your tracks are good enough to be interesting for quite a few people. it's very cool stuff. if you can get clone, flexx, decks, juno, nuloop etc interested to each get a few copies, you're well under way. you can also sell them direct via this forum, or don't underestimate things like myspace for this. or contact blogs, etc. you obviously would have to do some self promotion for this, but it'd be worth it..

Re: Simulacron limited edition interview with Beta Evers...

yeah there's a track of you running oftenly on IFM1 that I like

Re: Simulacron limited edition interview with Beta Evers...

uh! ex-DJX is still running my tracks on  IFM? when I met him last summer at the Complexx I had the idea he would only play released stuff, at least on the main channel... well, that's good to hear smile Which track is that btw?

So, Agence, if I say to you that the record is available for 7 euros plus postage and (on your side) additional VAT,
would you get one?

btw, on a side note, I just read on another part of the forum that Clone is stopping the record label business..

Re: Simulacron limited edition interview with Beta Evers...

Clone are just stopping their label (to change into something else), the distribution, shop and all the sublabels etc. are continuing!

Re: Simulacron limited edition interview with Beta Evers...

I don't remember the name, I'll try to spot it next time, as the prog is a little bit recurent for the moment on IFM1 (I guess because most of the database hasn't migrated yet), so your track is on heavy rotation...
As a big record freak, I'll get it, but I'd prefer to order it from a shop like clone, as I spent already too much for multiple postage services...

Re: Simulacron limited edition interview with Beta Evers...

@Agence: got your point in that. But since I have no clue on how distribution really works and I heard so many horror stories about small labels/individuals that lost both the money and the residual records because of crappy distributors
(I don't think that Clone is one of those, to clear out doubts!), I think that I'd be better managing "me" myself smile
Then I have to see if Clone could take my records, since I would not be a registered company (even if in Switzerland it is
really easy to set up one and the relative costs are more or less non-existant)...

For the moment, let me focus on printing that damn slab of vinyl smile
A.

PS: Another distribution method that would work (but only with patient people) is distribution-by-travel smile
I usually travel a lot and it would be easy for me to carry some records in my car, then I would visit places where
people reside and drop the record, maybe even doing a "listen with the artist" evening big_smile big_smile big_smile

That doesn't matter

Re: Simulacron limited edition interview with Beta Evers...

that's good news, smackos smile
Usually how many copies they get as a first run? 5? maybe 10?

Re: Simulacron limited edition interview with Beta Evers...

Oi. Post pressing stuff is hard work. I sold a few hundred records with out any major distribution, but it was difficult. so many unreplied e-mails.

I still have about 20 7" sitting quietly nestled on a shelf. I've been lately just dropping a copy with a each out of town DJ that comes by. I'd love to be distributed via clone, but i don't think it's quite up their alley.
