This weekend we're gonna build an IKEA wall of vinyl. Then I can store approx. 9000 records in the living room. Other rooms are full already. Pictures will follow.

The storage problems are official now

So you just got 12000 MORE records?!!  That's... amazing!  But how do you even find anything with that many?  I'd think it would take a few people a few years to sort through all of those...  I have ~4000 records, and that alone is a pain - I can't imagine having 3x that many...

and then making sure your house doesn't collapse from the weight is just another problem... wild!

it took me 3 afternoons to sift through 4000 records, very superficially, only pre-listening to a fraction of them. it helps if your musical focus (not taste!) is somewhat limited smile

Hmm... yeah, I guess if you're only looking through them and not listening, it wouldn't take that long to sort them out.  But if you're actually going to listen to each one, that would take quite a bit longer!  I've certainly looked through large piles in shops, but at home, I take the time to listen to most of my records.

Re: your last purchases of records

Yeah I think I have about 22.000 records now. It's just plain luck I found two very good suppliers this year. Both offers I couldn't refuse, although I didn't plan to buy so much. I must admit I don't really know what I bought, other than they're all 12" and in good shape.

Re: your last purchases of records

maybe you dont want to make public but how much do you pay for like 12.000 records? Is that like an euro per record or 50cent or way more or less? Just curious.

Re: your last purchases of records

well done, man.. keep the vinyl trade alive.. big_smile

visited 2 new goodwill type places here in a'dam that moved since the last time..

the melody- first strike ep (see saw '91, very ancient release by jochem paap)
zaine griff- ashes & iamonds lp ( a little poppy, but with hans zimmer programming the mc-4 and 2 moog 55 modulars!)
chas jankel- chasanova lp (for the 3,000.000 synths track)
roger powell- air pocket lp (very, very cool synth record from Utopia's keyboard player on todd rundgren's bearsville label) very rundgren-esque, but also some very nice synth tracks.. a real find..
all together for 4 euro!

i dont really get that "buy as much as you can" and boasting the sheer amount of records you have when perhaps 90 or say 70% of it is really not interesting. A friend of mine is one of the probably 3 biggest synth collectors around yet has only about 1/7 of that amount. In the end it's all about quality imho...
