Re: Manga

ghost in the shell 1 & 2
the series are also a good time waster.
anything by hayao miyazaki would set you good aswell

Re: Manga

Haven't seen that much anime stuff, really. Last one I saw was Paprika, which was pretty decent.

I recently downloaded one called Mind Game. Haven't seen it yet, but it's supposed to be more experimental.

Re: Manga

When I was a little kid, I liked Bastard very much. The characters were named after heavy metal bands.
And the anime that I loved the most was Nausicaa. It's by the same guy who did Spirited Away. I forgot his name.

Edit: I just saw Tek's post and he mentions the guy. His name is Hayao Miyazaki.

Re: Manga

i remember seeing this on mtv's liquid television back in the 90's and really digging it.

Re: Manga

Speaking of Liquid Television, There is of course the original Aeon Flux series! I loved it then, and still do smile

Re: Manga

Tekkonkinkreet? Haven't seen it yet, but it gets good comments and has a soundtrack by Plaid.

Honey, in the morning the bees are singing and the birds are stinging in an open head surgery.

Good ole Guyver ;-)

Fist of the North star is pretty fun, if ya want em just beating each other up.
Really like Golgo 13, kinda covert spy stuff.
Monster City and Devil Man are good dark horror stuff.
Appleseed is quasi quasar future.
Akira is classic and Metropolis is good, latter kinda french lookin.

"Hey Sweden."
"They're Norwegian Mac."

Music is a beautiful opiate, if you don't take it too seriously.

Re: Manga

Guyver and fist of the north star indeed...forget most of those pretentious movies that are often hyped...they mostly are only nice to look but very hard to go through. That said, there is also really a lot of good "arty" anime, you just have to go through a lot...i like straight entertaining to the point stuff like abovementioned series

Also check out the 2-part anime 'Goku midnight eye'...love that one

There is another of these topics here on hte forum btw with other suggestions...

"Luc-Ass deserves every flack he gets. In fact, I think he's getting off pretty easy. What he REALLY Deserves is to go broke and be forced to move into a dumpster behind Pizza Hut."

yeah there's lots of good recommendations on the other topic but .... i'd say my fav series is an old classic: berserk.

i tried watching metropolis the other day but fell asleep.. great animation though, maybe i'll give it another shot and finish the movie but i wasn't feeling it.

was also watching an old one: slam dunk! a great one for basketball fans and it's got some great humor.

Re: Manga

i liked mind game. is there any more stuff like this around?

try this crazy korean anime:  Aachi & Ssipak

Re: Manga

I always loved Princess Mononoke...Recently bought the Afro-Samurai series and it's technically part American but I thought it was so good. Nice graphics and very cool protagonist.

thanks man, that looks finally like some challenging cyberpunk anime to watch.

can't say how much i'm tired of diving through crap big-eyed pokemon-junk to find the gems that are very enjoyable.

good recomendations per  movies:

mind game

angels egg - old one from the director of gits, pretty weird but nice soundtrack and very interesting visual theme

all the miyazaki stuff

for series the best i've ever experienced is serial experiments lain

the evangelion series is pretty good aswell, never mind the stupid nerd hype around it as with all anime!

Re: Manga

The studio that did Lain went on to  further develop the ideas used in Lain and made this insanely good series called Dennou Coil, also about a virtual reality computer world and children. It's very spooky and awesome, pretty dark but also funny.

I made a bunch of anime recs in the other thread, haven't had time to watch any new ones. Downloaded Baccano! and Spice and Wolf which are both supposed to be good so I'm probably gonna start one of those when I next have time to go into anime hibernation mode.

hellsing ultimate
magical shopping arcade abenobashi

looking forward to getting: DARKER THAN BLACK, seen the trailer and looks very good, comes out next month in australia.

Studio ghibli's are also good, favorite being TOTORO , and also spirited away & howl's castle...

didn't really like how Aeon Flux was drawn.

Re: Manga

Mushi shi is also magnificent. 26 episodes, all separate stories. don't need to watch it in sequence.

Fullmetal Alchemist is a great series to watch and also reading the manga is good. Not quite the same as the anime.

Gungrave is a good mafia series.

also just saw the trailer for this over at you tube: Escaflowne
Looks pretty good.

Recently have started watching CLAYMORE the series

Almost finished the series of DEATH NOTE

Finished watching BLACK LAGOON - non stop action. lots of guns. and more action.

Hellsing,,,, news...I have read some where a couple of months ago. The manga for hellsing finishes at number 10. then there is the dawn. witch is 1940, when walter was younger and integra's father was alive. should be good.
