Topic: software analog style step sequencer

so i finally bought a kenton pro-solo for my minimoog.. but now i'm looking for a vst midi effect that i can use as a step sequencer similar to one of the vintage sequencers i.e. moog arp korg etc. i have search everywhere and havent had any luck, i have found a few that kind of get there but are more for triggering drums etc

does anyone here know of anything like this??

Re: software analog style step sequencer

i'm assuming you have checked on KVR?

since you have a midi-cv interface...this should do the trick.

Dunno about VST plugins, but if you're on a PC you really should check out Seq-303. I think it's free now, Matrixsynth had the download somewhere. It's got a slider-style interface, plus it does 303-style gliding between notes which is fantastic. I had great fun with it, a Pro-Solo and my MS-20.

I miss it now I've gone Mac, keep meaning to check out Numerology (...also not a VST).

Sequencer 303 is very cool indeed.

i don't need the gear, the gear needs me

just tried this now...
it's a bit... none intuitive...

does the sequencer 303 got mac version?

Re: software analog style step sequencer

...if we're still talking about Seq-303, it's long been abandoned, and it's PC-only.

I've had a fiddle with Way Out Ware's kikAxxe plugin, which has a really simple ARP-a-like sequencer built in, but I couldn't make it control a synth through MIDI in Live. Checking the docs, the VST and RTAS versions output MIDI, which I guess means the AU version doesn't.

I've had more success with a demo version of Numerology. I just spent a happy hour or so fiddling with it linked up to my MS-20, and I can recommend. It's not quite as easy as Seq-303 in use, the UI is a bit old-fashioned, but if you give it half-an-hour or so I'm sure you will have worked it out. The key seems to be working out the routing, and then you're set.

Re: software analog style step sequencer

Have you checked out Vaz Modular before?  Its sequencer might be what you're looking for.

The downside is that it's not packaged separately and costs

Re: software analog style step sequencer

ok, so i think my quest for the perfect analog style seq/arp plugin has come to an end...

i found this on kvr and it pretty much does everything i want

the midi out is what makes it....

also i had been searching for a  plug that could detect bpm from an audio input and have it control a midi clock

and found this, its still beta but the concept is pretty cool... anybody know of similar things?

Re: software analog style step sequencer

the step sequencer in sonar is very good as it integrated so well in the daw. i hardly use my midi controller anymore. im moving to live 8 now but i think i will still use this from time to time.

Re: software analog style step sequencer

If you set the kenton aux to velocity, you can make a pretty cool "analog sequencer" by just dragging on the velocity sliders (in live for example)
