Topic: Wedding DJing

I'm Djing at a wedding (1 of 3 of my pal's weddings this summer) this weekend. Anyone got any handy tips?

Re: Wedding DJing

Get trashed and sleep with as many bridesmaids as possible

Music is a beautiful opiate, if you don't take it too seriously.

Re: Wedding DJing

do not do any gear. there's nothing worse than talking to an old relative when you have a snot full of charge in you

keep hackney crap

For this purpose I recommend a kilt. Bridesmaids dig Tartan Trannies.

Re: Wedding DJing

bring an ipod, that's ample equipment. be sure to load the top 5 wedding party songs. don't ask me which ones exactly, they've escaped me at this moment, i think something along the line of YMCA etc. should do.

but most of all: aks yourself if the prospect of doing a bunch of bridesmaids is really worth the hassle of stupid requests all night long.

Re: Wedding DJing

I dj'd at my sister in law's wedding. I dunno what gear you have but since I only have a laptop I used a free program called Beatport Sync that does basic auto beatmatching. Has the couple given any thought to the music? If not I'd go with some Human League, Blondie, Abba etc.

Good luck!

Beyonce for the kids.

Do it your way, because everyone else is just weird.

Re: Wedding DJing

they want turntable action, northern soul, 80s, james bond, disco. normally spend half the time trying to work out who to leave in charge of the decks when you have to go for a piss!

Re: Wedding DJing

I played at one friends wedding last year and im going to play at another one in june.
Last time was very exhausting. Played from noon till early morning. Started out with Sinatra and ended with Rage against the Machine which the mother of the bride wanted to hear..

yes!!!!!! as long as they are more than three... and get seriously trashed, they'll all be. Don't get it too serious, gear up a bit, just a little, to be able to talk to all the aunties and to walk home the bridemaids, dress up real chic. Bring your shittiest records, they're usually the most loved ones, expect a lot of requests, and expect that they expect you to fulfill them (this is very important, trust me), the only way to have a good wedding party is to please the crowd that will dance like maniacs if so. Maybe gear up a bit more, when the music get real trash, and bring your ipod, you don't wanna spend all the night behind the turtables, there are all the bridemaids to work out, remember?

Re: Wedding DJing

Build a pyre made of the worst wedding records.  Make sure The Bonnie Banks o' Loch Lomond is at the top.
Then burn just before the first dance

Re: Wedding DJing

When in doubt... Motown it

Re: Wedding DJing

take as much casablanca disco. thats pretty safe without being too terribly generic. (at least you get to enjoy some moroder here and there) donna summer, giorgio, lipps inc, and of course....the village people (you kow some old coot will request it like, 10 times!!!)

and if the couple and their friends are young enough...

deee-groovy!
