Re: What new booty have you acquired?

I know some loathe the Prophet5 sound tongue but it is one of my retro favs aswell. The polymod section is really nice for fast fx/fm sound patching...

Its soundpalet is very wide imo, from ambient scifi fx to lush pop pads n strings  to straightforward hakke  gabbersynthsounds..very versitile.
$2000USD is really cheap I think, here in Holland a standard 3.3 P5 goes for 2500 to the 3000 pricerange already orso.

happy tweaking smile

I hope to show a nice piece of gear in the next days here tongue

EDIT: spelling

Re: What new booty have you acquired?

damn, thats a nice score, a working T8 for that price.. congratulations!

@ssm: you should check their stuff.. but its funny he says that, their early and late records are so radially different that there is no single GO4 sound.. and both sounds, both the ''punky'' early stuff and the disco-y later things, are back in vogue for a few years now, so it seems anything they'd do now would be picked up immediately..

Re: What new booty have you acquired?

It's got an extremely loud but insanely clear output. Nice to have it clear for the softest, tiniest sounds. Probably due to the software VCAs. It also has software LFOs although you can use analog VCO2 as an LFO. The filters, Oscs and everything else is leftover Prophet 5 rev 3 guts.

Isn't the T8 more like a Prophet 600 in the synth dept. or something?

Re: What new booty have you acquired?

Yes it is not a Prophet 5 rev 3 x8 under the hood. It is mostly like a Prophet rev. 3 just like the 600 but they both have software LFOs and VCAs. The VCOs and VCFs in P600s and T8's are the same as in a Prohet 5 rev3. But over the P600 the T8 has two microprocessors instead of one each of them with much more power, much more control and expressiveness and comes with P5 controls and hardware in the fancy box. I'm just paraphrasing Pete Forrest who in "A-Z" makes it clear to people that the T8 is much more than just a P600 in a fancy box.

I think that's what I'm most excited about. Everything works, there's no problems, came with original manual (and receipt! $5500 in 1983 dollars blech) and all accessories at a price I could make happen. I'm just glad I was first to the pole on Ebay. Justifies the trolling.

The prices of these are pretty funny from the people selling them. Like Analog Sweden is selling theirs for 4500 Euro and trying to tell me that there's no stock pedal for the T8 even though it came with one originally. And a guy in Australia trying to sell one for $9000 aussie dollars. Tonetweakers wants $8000 USD for theirs. They are always priced up the wazoo.

And ones that actually sell are going for about $4000 USD. Which is still crazy money.

Oh well, I got mine.

Nice! With service history, that is really how to do it.
One thing, are the tapes new? Cause if they are old (like older than 5 years), whether used or unused, you'd be better of throwing them away. The risk of sticky shed is too big, better be safe than sorry.

Also, get a demagnetizer if you don't have one yet. If the recorder is in such a nice shape, some good yet simple maintenance once in a while will really make it last longer. Demagnetizing the head every once in a while (I do it before every important recording, but you can do it only once every 100 hours of operation) is part of good maintenance.

What version is it btw? A77, but HS, 1/4 track or 1/2 track?

its true I see those machines quiet often too here around. But the prices are allways insane. (CHF 2000 and more for an A77 wich is ridiculous).

Re: What new booty have you acquired?

Hmm yeah, that is a lot.  It's the service record and the general state that should determine the price. They're quite delicate machines in general, anything that seems too good to be true, probably is too good to be true. Still, you never know what you get, you always need to see and check the recorder carefully before buying any given price. Revox and a few other brands like Otari and Teac / Tascam are good to buy in general, spare parts are easy to get and general maintenance is rather easy.

Re: What new booty have you acquired?

consumer mid-level like Cambridge Audio, NAD and Rotel.

I would call that more consumer hi-level as a Cambridge audio owner big_smile

Re: What new booty have you acquired?

Was thinking about it for awhile, finally went and picked up that Yamaha DX7IIFD today for $350 Canadian including hard case and cartridge. Absolutely perfect shape.

Played with it at home for a coupla minutes before I had to got to work. So...80s...mmmmm...80s. Sounds crazy nice too. Super sound quality.

Re: What new booty have you acquired?

75 sounds okay for the HK.. if its in good condition..

the revox is a nice score, especially if its in the condition you describe. and the remote is probably worth half the price of the recorder alone, those go for insane prices. i was lucky to find a home made remote for my b77 for 50 euro a while ago..
also do you know what type of tapes it's adjusted to? that'll be handy to know when buying new ones..
