Topic: Live 7 - assigning midi (triggers?)

Hi people!

well it happened, i got started with ableton

the answer im looking for could be right in front of me but im a total newbie at it so,
heres my question:

when i drag my tracks into a audio track, first, one, then another, i can play them simultaniously.. thats great!

now on one of the tracks playing, i want to use a filter like beat repeat or reverb (for instance)

i have my roland 808 and it will be replaced soon by a m-audio uc33   midi thingy

now:  how in the name of music can i assign different knobs on my hardware to those filters?

so when i turn one knob, my filter in Live reacts?

should i wait trying untill i have that midi interface? or can i start trying on the 808 as well?

anyway, i could seem like a ridiculous question to you guys, but it would really give me a boost start with using Live

thx guys!

Re: Live 7 - assigning midi (triggers?)

Eh, what?
You use your TR-808 as a midi-controller ?
hmm

Re: Live 7 - assigning midi (triggers?)

Do you wanna trade the TR-808 with a UC-33?

send me an Email :-)

Re: Live 7 - assigning midi (triggers?)

methinks he means mc 808

Re: Live 7 - assigning midi (triggers?)

aaarrrgh ye thinks right

i meant the MC 808.. sorry bout that, wasnt aware there was a tr 808, or maybe i shouldnt have said that smile

well its the mc808, and for now i use it to link my crappy old korg x3 (which doesnt have usb) to my pc..

i once tried to assign the faders to that regroove mixer in reason, and that seemed to work, a bit.. smile im not exactly a hardware expert, or software for that matter..
to be honest..

so.. any thoughts?

thx you guys!

Re: Live 7 - assigning midi (triggers?)

Connect the midi-thing to your computer.
In Ableton press ctrl+M.
Turn a button or fader on your midi-thing.
Press ctrl+M again.
Now it should be assigned.

Re: Live 7 - assigning midi (triggers?)

don't forget to select the midi thing you want to control before turning your other midi thing or there will be midi no-thing.

Re: Live 7 - assigning midi (triggers?)

hi people! thanks again for the replies!

though i still have a slight problem with assigning..
i just installed the uc 33e (software) its connected to my pc by USB, then on my right i have a Korg X3, connected by midicables

in ableton, when using ctrl-M i get the blue layout indicating that i can now assign..
but from the start, at the preferences menu, midi sync tab.. i selected the uc in "control surface" then whats up with input and output? do i select my soundcard there, or is this the spot where i should select my X3?
i tried a lot of combinations but still i cannot press DUMP

then below, at the MIDI PORTS section, theres the inputs and outputs again, (SB Live MIDI UART, USB AUDIO DEVICE, USB AUDIO DEVICE 2, Microsoft Wavetable SW SYNTH  and some more..)

so.. heres the thing, which selections should i make above in Control Surfaces, and below, Track Sync Remote, which ones do i use?

it would be really great if you guys could help me out! since it sucks not being able to use my new toy after buying it 1 hour ago sad

i did try it out in reason4 and its no problem at all.. but theres a more easy way there to make the connection, after that its no problem there.. so is it me or does anyone else have/had the same problem?

still i understand if i tire you with obviously newbie questions.. still.. if you could help him get started..

many thanks!

Re: Live 7 - assigning midi (triggers?)

well i sorted it out.. i called the dealer and i was advised to try a different driver..

MA_CMIDI_WDM_4.2.03v2.exe

this is the one, maybe it will help someone..

this thing rocks!
