Topic: CV from your DAW

So I've seen a lot of hub-bub lately about plugins like Volta that can more or less turn your DAW's audio interface into a multi-output CV monster. You just need a interface with DC-coupled outputs (most MOTU interfaces, for example).

Has anyone tried this yet? I have a Fireface 800, which won't work with this system.

I was wondering if it would be worth buying a used MOTU interface, solely for this purpose.

Wuddyathink?

Here's a drool-inducing demo using Volta and a 200e http://vimeo.com/3749926

Re: CV from your DAW

I've been following this,

For me it's not viable right now because I'd need to switch to mac, switch to a Motu interface.

I still would'nt be able to control and tune the Ms-20 properly.

I have an Encore Expressionnist and it's pretty cool but I'd love to have easier access to MIDI synced LFOs.

Re: CV from your DAW

volta is nice for lfo's and envelopes.
But why bother to control the pitch of your modular with it.
Specialy a Buchla witch was never designed for keyboard players at all.

Re: CV from your DAW

@Tony -- Wait, why wouldn't you be able to control your ms-20?

@Mono -- Fair enough about Buchla, although not really applicable in my case as I unfortunately don't see myself owning one in the near future tongue

But as a general tool to have around for controlling old analogs, it seems pretty handy. I mean, it beats buying a whole bunch of Kenton boxes, right?

Re: CV from your DAW

It is kinda cool  yeah.
I specilay like the lfo and envelope features.
But for pitch tuning you don't need those audio outputs.
But yeah it can be cheaper as a kenton.

yeah, I saw that on Matrix today...sorta inspired this post. Didn't mention it because i don't really know anything about it...seems cool though.

SOme notes on the Ms calibration

I also read on somewhere tat someone was using it with Volta but bypassed the envelopes, which can be cool but not ideal.

But this is a really cool product if you happen to have a mac and a motu interface.

You should consider the expressionist if you want similar functions.
It's cheaper than buying a bunch of Kentons and can be cheaper than Volta + a dedicated Motu interface.
