Re: Magic Waves Summer Festival, London (10th/11th July 2009)

wow! what a weekend and what can I say? everything went brilliantly from our point of view, we didn't lose any money and saw some truly awe-inspiring stuff we'll never forget...

first off a massive heartfelt thank you to ALL artists and guests, I don't think I've ever seen so many hardcore discomaniacs gathered together in one place whether in a dancing or music-making capacity - we were truly humbled by the international legions that assembled in Corsica Studios, your overwhelming enthusiasm and commitment to the music is what made the festival happen.

I don't care if this is so long it eats up half your browser, a particular mention really has to go to a list of very special people behind the scenes whose efforts made it all possible, and should be recognised for going above and beyond the call of duty, the "MAGIC WAVES CREW":

FLEMMING DALUM - no Flemming, no festival, it's as simple as that. Absolutely the greatest "philanthropist" for italo in the modern age, I know of no-one else who could do what he's done... and his energy, passion and enthusiasm carried us through it all on top of his initial generosity. This list is not in order whatsoever but if it was he'd still be first on it. THANK YOU FLEMMING! WE WILL NEVER FORGET!!

SALVATORE CUSATO - an incredible amount of extra work put in despite having his own very heavy work schedule, and always Magic Waves' "Italo Godfather" and dear friend since the very beginning... total love to Salvatore always.

ALESSANDRO NOVAGA - first gig since 1984 and maybe the last one, and a wonderful and wise human being with some great stories - we can never thank you enough Alex!

FRED VENTURA - always encouraging, optimistic, helpful, enthusiastic, generous and understanding from the very start. An absolute legend and a rock of support from the word go. "The Boss".

VICTOR LIFE AND FOCKEWULF 190 - Victor has been an inspiration to us all the way through with his philosophies, attitude and general passion for life itself. A truly wonderful human being, as was everybody from Fockewulf, and again, generous to the point of insanity! So selfless he would not even accept us paying for a taxi to the venue. We were utterly humbled.

FERENC VAN DER SLUIJS - total support in every way... I don't need to say to any robots what this man means to the music we love, nevertheless take it from me: what it takes for a man to do what he has done is something most people will never truly understand. And in terms of this festival he has been there 100% any way he can help all the way; we thank you Ferenc!

JORJA CHALMERS - handling flights, hotels, itineraries, the lynch-pin of the operation - nothing happening without her. And then to have to miss the event due to an unexpected gig schedule - we thought of you every second Jorja... truly the best of the best.

LINA GOLDBERG - press officer extraordinaire, and general wonder-woman in all ways. Again, the festival could not have happened or been the success it was without her. She can do much more than just solve your personal problems - she can solve your festival ones too! Word to the doctor...

DAVID VUNK AND THE MEN FROM MOUSTACHE - such an incredible amount of help and friendship from our brothers (and sister!) from Rotterdam - David, Mark, Ricky, Martijn and Marjolein, we always have your back, the festival could not have been the same without you all...

ANDY & MARTIN (OPPENHEIMER ANALYSIS) - the loveliest most down-to-earth pair of diehard music (and sci-fi) lovers you could ever hope to meet, their performance was every bit as legendary as anyone could have hoped for.  See you soon for a drink in Hove!!

SEBASTIAN MURAVCHIK - a man with a passion, dedication and commitment to italo that cannot be doubted, anyone who saw the performance he gave will not be able to forget it and we have to thank him for all his support, encouragement and solidarity over the years.

DANNY WOLFERS - stepping in at the last minute and bearing the brunt of the chaos, what a fantastic effort...

INGMAR PAULI - original dutch connection!! massive supporter since Magic Waves first ever went on air, equally with Cyber Dance, and as everybody knows, an all-round great person. Could not have been right or the same without you!!

ROB & ZOOPSIE - what an opening you gave us for the festival, and again, total supporters of everything we've been doing for a number of years now... 2 years ago we had La Dolce Noir with Casco and these guys, 2 years later and we have the festival - so literally there from the start!

DANNY WALKER - artist/graphic designer, was called up literally every day with fresh tasks and didn't flinch once... not just a talented designer/artist but a great friend since before Magic Waves ever existed and an incredible musician as well

SIM LEWIS - handled artist change-overs and set co-ordinations on the night, completely invaluable and selfless help...

BILL AMBROSE - ultimate disco warrior... if you have a problem and no-one else can fix it, call Bill! Flyers, hard disks, turntables, whatever we needed you did without a second thought Bill, pints aplenty coming to you!

MIKE WRIGHT - most patient and tolerant sound assistant anyone could wish for... utter shame the over-running times cost us half of his set, I urge you to check out BRASSICA, some of the best music to come out of the UK in years...

ANDY BLAKE - general encourager, instigator, supporter and enthusiast...

TIM CLIFFORD - handled the thankless task of the door on the night and ran it perfectly. And utter emotional support.

COLETTE NOLAN - exactly the same as above. Tim and Colette kept us going through the good times and bad...

DEE O'HALLORAN - jumped in at the last minute to handle the door (and soon-to-be star of Magic Waves Live Show!)

TEAMY - one of the most decent and patient managers I've ever come across, he joined dots for us when we flagged

MATT & GARDI (DEN HAAN) - amazing mission down from T in the Park straight into the chaos of the festival and delivering a totally unforgettable set, you guys really went above and beyond for the call of the discotheque, can't wait to have you guys down again!

CHRIS & JENNIFER - promotional assistance beyond compare, looking forward to working with you again for sure

GOSIA + entertainist film crew - when all options had been tried and failed you jumped in and fixed everything like a flash! can't wait to see the footage...

PHILIPPE ARATKILO - so great to meet you finally, another person who's been down with Magic Waves since we started... wonderful to have you there.

COSMO & FABER - you took one for the team, but you know we support you back all the way. Pleasure to meet you in person and we look forward to working together again very soon indeed!

PAUL FANNING - promotional assistance, general support and organisational help, disco warrior!

JOE HART - die-hard support from the beginning, offering accomodation and any help needed...

MESCHI, MARK, Rick & JONNY (Dream Machine) - "the boys" - after-party organisers and general help in all ways...

CHE, MARIO & BEN (Pearl Flash) - pre-party organisers, and volunteers of their own flat as a venue after the trouble

ANDREW, BRIAN, JONNY, JOEL, JASPER (Slabs Of The Tabernacle) - always the first to support us any way they can, really thanks to everybody who came down from Scotland, if you look at the statistics there were so many people down from north of the border that if you hadn't all been there we'd have been losing money on the event in a big way...

MATT MCGOUGH - ran the thankless mission of the myspace page and didn't even know us - we owe you many pints!

DAN CIARDI - all the way from New Jersey to the UK on a hardcore Italo mission, amazing effort...

SASHA - always there and always supporting in any way possible, massive thank you for everything

ADRIAN, AMANDA, ZAZA & MILAN (Corsica Studios) - best venue team we've ever worked with, the "good guys" for sure

Mangalore you were missed, hope you're feeling better dude...

Big thanks to the Magic Waves crew for an awesome weekend and a big shout out to the last men and women standing at the after party! I'm feeling very broken, but it was well worth it (taking Monday and Tuesday off work was a stroke of genius on my part).

Same again next year?
