Topic: Daft Punk...then and next

Came across this old footage of Daft Punk's Thomas playing in the US somewhere. It's quite nice and now i hear they yare signed to soundtrack Tron 2 due out in 2011...maybe it will be the futurist goodness it could be

Re: Daft Punk...then and next

I remember around this time (1996) they got a lot of support from Gramaphone records here which is good (and surprising to me) for a non-local artist that comes out of nowhere but I think they did so because they did their ahem, "Homework" and gave honor to the past in their sound and literally on "Teachers" which lists many of the same people I think paved the way for House and Techno based artists. With each release they kind of lost me more and more though. Bangalter also had a good thing going with Roul

Re: Daft Punk...then and next

you should check their movie, "Electroma":

so if their new music will suck theres at least hope for some good flicks

That's in the midwest, mr. communicator!

At one of the Drop Bass parties in the Milwaukee area...

Re: Daft Punk...then and next

I had a feeling it was in the area cause I know they spent a lot of time absorbing the scene and making connex in the area early in their career. Drop Bass, legendary parties and network.

for their first track (that pounding nazi marching track wink, what ever it is called) i hear just a sampler and a boom box as monitors.

for discovery they used a korg wavestation for that famous guitar solo

Re: Daft Punk...then and next

I like a lot of their stuff, they have had some cool tracks over the years, Veridis Quo anyone? they were sweet live too.
PLUS the Irreversible OST is killer! Paris by Night is too good

French music suxx... smile

Daft punk's first album was a great one, but then... They missed a bit the thing and got way to much on the "hype" scene... Now "thanks" to them we have lots of french producers doing almost the same kind of music (Justice, Kavinsky, Sebastian, and such...), some tracks are nice but most are just cut'n'paste of the same samples & synths... Boring... hmm

This is electro darlin' !

For some reason, that album by Tom Trago on Rush Hour, reminds me a lot of the good side of Daft Punk.. and he doesn't use a bitcrusher!
