checked some demo's of EMX and ESX-1. Sounds nice. And working on it seems easy. Can I Control external synths with the sequencer of ESX-1?

yes you can.
You can assign each of the 5 synth parts to a seperate midi channel

The EMX has 5 mono synth parts assignable to separate channels (or 1 channel to use as a funny poly synth) the ESX has only 2 synth parts.
EMX gives you accents on the synth parts, ESX doesn't.

Both units have their own perks for sequencing external gear. The ESX is a bit better for drums because it has like 15 or so midi note assignable pads.

I have owned/frequently used 5 of the X series electribes and all but 1 had terrible noise problems. To fix it and make it sound way better buy some new tubes for it.

Re: What drumcomputer?

You can mod sequence the knobs on esx...........so you can get "accent" on all parts kind of. more work i guess.

Re: What drumcomputer?

Nice it has the abilty to sequencer other gear.
I think im gonna save some money for this machine.

Re: What drumcomputer?

here's a sound on sound review of the esx1.
http://www.soundonsound.com/sos/mar04/a … rgesx1.htm

we've been really happy with ours, we use it live for bass and electronic drums and our drummer has triggers on his snare and kick to trigger samples with it and it also then master-controls our other electribe and our SP404.

worship the potentiometer.

Re: What drumcomputer?

just get back your old and trusty MPC2000XL  !
At night i can hear it crying for you wink
you already know how to operate it and it will sequence all your external gear.
...or are you looking for step sequencing ?

Re: What drumcomputer?

My problem with esx1 is that is seems like waaaay too much. The metal ridges and the size of the thing seemed kinda ridonkulous, but then again it does have a lot of cool features.... the ribbon controller. I totally forgot about that... so good. : )

How about the native instruments maschine?

Seem to have a lot of Bang for the Buck

yeah i'm wondering about maschine too. It is software-based though, even if the controller looks nice.

Anybody who already messed around with it?
curious about possibilities / sound quality /...

[edit].. ok, youtube is your friend .. found some decent explanations
feedback still welcome though

Re: What drumcomputer?

I tried out the maschine last weekend at feedback rotterdam. I really like the pads and how they feel, well the it sounds no different than playing with any other drumprogrammer like battery on your computer. Like I said it has a good feeling - If you get an Mpc though you got almost the same and it can run without computer.

For a computerbased drummachine I'd rather get one of those mpd's (mpc style midicontrolers with pads) and use it with battery - that's 400 euro less and almost the same just without having glowing pads (which look very cool but are really not needed imo).
