Re: Getting my first synth - recommendations

I think your ideas are pretty good so far. 101 is good for learning synthesis but ms2000 and juno would be great and probably satisfying for you to play. i dont see an eps16 as what you need but you might consider something like an esq-1 or 80.  pretty cheap, straightforward to program, nice feeling keyboard and that ensoniq sound.

if you're not fussed about midi or sequencing, the juno-6 would be quite cheap and sounds amazing

Re: Getting my first synth - recommendations

Is the vocoder part any good in the microkorg?

Re: Getting my first synth - recommendations

Don't fuck with an SH-101 or an ax-60 or a juno because they are so basic. If you only have one synth, make sure it has a wide range of sound possibilities...

MS-2000 is really really great and Microkorg is also great, unless like someone said before you're going to be playing on the keys. The vocoder isn't spectacular on either one (compared to standalone vocoders), but it definitely does the job. The thing I fucking love about the MS-2000 is the mod sequencing, which is far superior to the MicroKorg's "powerful arpeggiator".

BTW, you NEED MIDI, I don't see how you wouldn't. And a matrix really isn't that bad once you get used to it--it's not daunting in any way. Having every knob or slider available to be tweaked is not that necessary, to be honest, because you're not going to be tweaking every knob on every track every time you play.

Because i record everything live? It might be useful for stuff like audiovisual projects, but other than that no.

Couple of new little friends.

I couldn't resist a Microkorg for $250 Cdn. locally. I just kept hearing more and more about them and decided to take a chance. It might not be the only synth you'll ever need but with everything else I have it has been kind of a neat little tool this week. No vocoder mic with it but I wouldn't use it anyway.

What I'm most excited about though is the Bugbrand Board Weevil I got in the mail the other day. I can't put it down the little thing sounds so insane. I have just been playing with it on its own but a guy just put up a crazy video of it through a reverb http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7XsvxFIrrJ0. I swear to god this thing came from HELL!

oops wrong topic.
