Topic: trigger conversion

what is the easiest way of converting v-trig to s-trig? i have a korg ms-10 who wants to hang out with the roland gang. i don't want to bring in midi.
can a newbie make one of those little converter cables? does anyone have good schematics? can you buy them for cheap somewhere?

i had one of these made for me ..but i don't use it.
you can have it

Re: trigger conversion

really?

Re: trigger conversion

yes

Re: trigger conversion

i can make one for you if you want. http://www.retrosynth.com/docs/trigger/ … onvert.jpg

Re: trigger conversion

i recently got yamaha cs15d and was hoping to sequence it with sh-101, but the damn yamaha uses Hz/V instead V/Oct. is there some kind of way to make it work or will i just have to buy kenton pro solo or smth?

Re: trigger conversion

i also have a cs15d, although im trying to get rid of it. i guess a midi-cv converter like the pro-solo is the only solution.. or maybe there are hz/v to v/oct converters too?
anyway, my advice is not to sequence it at all... you can only use the kenton for one of the channels, and the portamento won't work. even if one of the channels is preset-only, the cs15d is much nicer if you layer two sounds and just play the keys. it's more of an instrument than a "techno machine" if you know what i mean.

Re: trigger conversion

there is converters (lin->exp) for this too, check http://home.swipnet.se/cfmd/synths/sche … oct2hz.pdf which is the same as in the asm-1 diy synth. im gonna build one of those pretty soon.

Re: trigger conversion

thanks inkinen!

@hans: you say that you can not get the CV/Gate out from one channel to the inputs of the second? i can't see why that won't work. or just use a splitter for the cable from the converter. shame for the portamento though...
but why would you get rid of it? it's a great machine, extremely underrated

Re: trigger conversion

you are right, a splitter for the cable would do the trick!

i agree that it's underrated. im only getting rid of it because i have too many synths in my microscopic appartment.

it will be hyped once people realize it has 3 different COSMIC presets

Re: trigger conversion

lol

you should emphasize that to your potential buyer.
"man, it's got COSMIC written all over it!"

Re: trigger conversion

..that will work even better if you place stickers to hide the brand & model and advertise it as "secret cosmic synthesizer"

Re: trigger conversion

regarding cable splitting cv signals.. watch out so that your midi->cv converter or cv generator can cope with driving two oscillators at the same time.. some won't handle the extra load and cv drifting/tuning problems will arise. but it can also sound cool wink

Re: trigger conversion

that's a good thing to know!

maybe i'll just control the second vco with synth's own cv/gate out

Re: trigger conversion

the guy of Opus Finis, Ramiro Jeancarlo, built me a 'staccato' box that does "korgs" to "rolands" and "rolands" to "korgs"

is very nice and cheap, it resolved me a lot of probs while not playing with the kenton pro 4 but with the cv gate eheeh

it uses a 9volt battery.  there are 2 inputs and 2 outputs . 2 seperate circuits that you can use at the same time if you want.

1st circuit- INPUT 5v(- ground) korgs>>>> OUT 5-8.5v+ to (arp or rolands with gate or trigger inputs)

2nd circuit- INPUT 5-15v +(rolands)>>>OUT 5v(- ground) to(korgs)

he also built after my request a double trig cable for the mattel synsonic drums...bd trig and 16' trig, very nice too!

Re: trigger conversion

not sure if this is applicable for you, but you can use something like an MPC to sequence or trigger analog gear by sending the correctly pitched sample

Re: trigger conversion

hey olivier8, got the cable today, seems to be working fine! i will drop you an e-mail soon!

mannequinmailorder -> looks nice!

rarara -> yeah i know, but the timing problem would remain with s-trig synths i think? anyway i don't want to bring in midi or the mpc.

Re: trigger conversion

Hey guys I'm in a similar situation here...want to trigger the yamaha cs-5 with the TR-707, so I think the conversion I need would be the same as the one from mekonin (same brands, about the same time of release).
Any help? Inkinen? smile

im not sure what you are after.. just trigging the cs-5 without sending pitch/cv to the vco's?
if so i think you need a s-trig to v-trig converter.. there are schematics available at http://www.midibox.org/dokuwiki/drumstuff

Re: trigger conversion

if tony cops is right you should be able to trigger it via the ext. input. so there is no need for a conversion cable or anything. just a standard mono tele. but the other cs synths has a little switch for this, i can't find it from looking at pics of the cs-5...

Re: trigger conversion

I'm raising this thread from the dead to ask you guys a question.

I have bought a Kenton PRO-2 to drive my SH-101 and Yamaha CS15D, but I have just found out trough the Kenton tech support that Yamaha CS15D needs an S-Trig with pullup, which is not featured on PRO-2... Their advice is to either purchase a newer Kenton model, or have my synth modified to have an internal pullup. Is there anyone here who could give me a slightest idea on how that could be done?

Thanks.
