Re: District 9
can anyone explain reasonably why they hated it outside of the quite silly "this sci-fi movie was far fetched" argument?
for the record I thought it was entertaining on the whole, but was essentially brain candy, slightly more intelligent than a Bruckheimer movie, but not nearly as clever as anything Verhoeven has done (Verhoeven being the king of sci-fi allegory)
i didn't like it just because of the overall feeling i had while watching it. i was very bored throughout. they didn't get too deep into characters and that's one thing i really like in movies. i didn't like the story, and if you're TRYing to be a movie that blurs the line between fiction and non-fiction (which i think it was trying to be) with the potential for the event to actually take place in the future then i do think some of the scenes were a little far fetched and i don't think it fit the movie well. there's a movie and a story for these wild and far fetched moments but i just don't think it fit with this movie. i definitely don't think it was a terrible movie but i wouldn't pay for it (like 98% of movies in the theaters today) and i think that a lot of the hype played a big part in my disappointment with it. just didn't enjoy it. plain and simple.
